It’s not quite Halloween yet but since I won’t be in the UK for the 31st Oct and tonight is my friend’s UN-PC birthday party (politically incorrect – the boyf is going as Mark Speight…you get the idea), a little bit of dress up was in order. I had this idea of draping myself in a lot of vintage furs…turns out the stuff is quite pricy so I could only manage a wee stole that is startingly warm even though I did balk a bit at the stoles with heads etc on them at the Notting Hill Retro Clothing Exchange. Then at the same shop, with this vintage Caroline Charles dress (who knew Caroline Charles made such things?!), it sort of morphed into a nod to Cruella di Ville. Alas, my hunt for an antique cigarette holder did not materialise with anything so instead I just have a pack of Marlboro Lights with me (I’m a lame-o who doesn’t smoke by the by…).
It’s all subtle nods though as people on the tube might think I’ve got my dates messed up… and that wil never do…

I love the dress insanely though without heads on them, the stole isn’t sufficiently evil for my taste. I hope you slapped a child on the way over to make up for the deficient.
Becky.
I’m loving this b/w look on you and your tights are so fierce! Have fun at the party!
Ooh, I love dress up parties and absolutely adore your outfit! You look amazing! Love the hat, the dress, the tights, gloves, everything! Shame you couldn’t find a cigarette holder to top it all off. My sister (also lives in London), recently held a 20’s party, and found one…too late to ask her where she found it I s’pose. Hope you had a ball, you looked smokin’! (haha, pun unintended)
Haha, I just did a post about my Halloween costume . . too? I dunno, this is too cool to be a costume.

Evil Susie RULES.
amazing outfit
“though I did balk a bit at the stoles with heads etc on them at the Notting Hill Retro Clothing Exchange”
So you don’t mind wearing fur as long as you don’t have to be reminded that it used to be a real live animal?
That dress is great! What a find! The whole outfit is beautiful! Bet you felt brilliant in it! I agree with some other comments that it looks far too good to be considered a costume! If you had the cigarette holder, loadsa costume jewellery and more furs it would def look like a costume!
Did your boyfriend have to bleach his hair for his?

Ah…,the eternal fur or not to fur question… I’ll be honest, I would not have done this were it not for the party… of course I realise the fur came from a real live animal…the problem with the heads is a) it’s aesthetic appeal and b) the fact that they were so old that the eyes looked like they were staring at me with glassy evilness… it’s the sort of thing that if I wore it at a party adn the night got a bit long, I’d be staring at it at the end and getting nightmare visions….
I’m not ashamed to say that I bought this one vintage stole for the sake of one silly night… I might even wear it again… I’ve always sat on the fence with fur as I’ve said on other blogs….I likethe aesthetics of certain types but yes, that reassurance that they were produced in a way that isn’t complete monstrous to animals would be nice to (and there are ways…look at SAGA furs e.g….)
Perhaps I can’t have my cake and eat it…in which case then I’m not ashamed to say that I like the look of it…just not the heads with beady eyes that look like they might fall out…
I salute you for bothering to answer the animal-heads question. Yay for you!
Fur fur fur fur, leather leather leather.
Ms Bubbles, you look amazing. This doesn’t even look costume-y.. you can definatly wear it out. And I have to admit, I’ve been looking for a pair of tights like yours, but all that is around are horizontal stripes 🙁 where are yours from?
