Soft Mangos

manfas1.jpg

The title is a little bit rude-sounding when considering the subject but I am referring to the soft and delicate aesthetic of Sandrina Fasoli, the first Mango prize winner that I wrote about (300,000 euros… a sum not to be sniffed at especially now that the pound is so bloody dire….) and their collection for Mango (part of the dealio of the prize…) which is due to hit stores worldwide in January 2009.

It consists of eleven predominantly black pieces with rose and lavender thrown in. It’s all silky and gauzey stuff that like other things remind m I need to start housing clothes in nude-coloured boxes nestled in between scented tissue paper.  Sandrina (who I had the opportunity to meet whilst I was out in San Francisco) and Michael Marson (her design partner) both know when to pipe it down and keep the tone steady without taking anything away from their aesthetic.  These pieces for Mango are pretty much perfectly in sync with their mainline collection and going for a smart choice of fabrics as opposed to wild and crazy designs will pay off when non-Mango customers like myself start flocking in January looking for pieces to do crazy combos with that won’t break down in the wash (I’ll ‘fess that a Mango top has literally fallen apart in the wash before…).
