The red sale signs have come down to make way for something fresh at Selfridges.. icy fresh… classical icy fresh…classical icy fresh with lots of tin foil, light sabres and silver foil leggings. So ok, the displays for the start of S/S 09 at the deparment store isn't overly conceptual or pushing the buttons but it is a clean slate that wipes out any notion of troubles ahead; a blank space to ponder uncomplicated beauty… and it's my regular ritual to scope out their windows so here they are…
Chloe fitting in quite serenely…
Vivienne Westwood menswear serves up hip baggage trousers…
Thakoon under the arches…
Miu Miu // Alexander McQueen
Maison Martin Margiela styled beyond recognition…
Alexis Mabille's S/S09 finale piece flanked by lions…
Ashish shimmers as it normally does…
Phillip Lim // Burberry Prorsum
Stella McCartney… at this point I was beginning to wonder whether Selfridges might want to donate their chainmail hoodies and give one to me…
A happy accident that Eun Jeong Hong (aka Go By A Secret Path)'s winning Fashion Fringe collection fits perfectly into this icy setting and probably gave impetus for the theme, because this particular window is by far the most impressive….
After a palatte cleansing S/S 09 refresher from Selfridges, did I go forth and purchase S/S 09 with a rejuvenated mindset? No, I bused it down to H&M and binged on some buy 1 get 1 free items from the sale for no apparent reason. My New Year's Resolution to buy more of the good/right stuff, buy less of the unncessary shit stuff has so far been working out fantastically well. It ain't even February yet! Pah to new year's resolution…
this is so stunning. i need to get to selfriges NOW!
You can make it a Chinese New Year resolution instead??
That’s why I don’t bother with resolutions each year.
Who can walk out of H&M empty handed..?! I can’t. Well if we had H&M here in AU that is.
This is so cool…
They make window dressing a whole new art form. Why can’t more shops do this! I think it would make the high street a much less predictable place
Thank you so much Susie! This is going to sound reallu stupid, but I often entertain dreams of being a desire by writing down words for a collection (e.g. “Alaska, Greece, Ice, Coral . . .”etc.) and I’ve been dreaming up/sketching a SS10 collection, and, by jove, these windows are very very similiar to what I had in mind – detailed simplicity, light yet sharp colors, Greek influences but not in that cliched way . . . there are too many coincidences in this world I tells ya!
I’d be up for a chainmail hoodie.
I love Selfridges window displays, their Christmas ones were immense, especially the Santa on the mini tube carriage! Just one question, is one of those Maison Martin Margiela manequins holding a light sabre? 😛
The H&M sale is ruling my world atm, even it has meant that I now have more 3/4 length sleeve jumpers than I will ever wear …
x
I have been looking for the perfect white dress for ages that is neither bridal or essex/wag looking. Unfortunately my resolution is to spend less money so those in the window can only be admired.
It all looks a little.. Christmas-y!

Aaaaah… Selfridges is to me what Tiffany’s is to Holly Golightly…
dam it
the little island of jersey doesnt DO good shops.
the furthest we’ve got is MISS SELFRIDGES 🙁
i long for selfridges.
i have to agree w your new year’s resolute… its pretty much mine… less shit more substance that lasts for more than a few wearings/ seasons/ trends///
Yup yup, their decision to use pristine colors is def a good choice that makes us think clearly… Love the pale colors!! I wish we had store windows like that here in Hawai’i!!
Those displays are fantastic! I am in love with your blog, it’s impeccably amazing!
:]
That fringing is dreamy. I’ll have to stop by x
That’s a gorgeous display, well done Selfridges! I wish more stores could be as creative.
So gorgeous, thanks for going to the trouble of getting these pics!
wow.. I love the window displays, its like an ethereal dungeon. The fashion fringe collection is gorgeous too.
donate their chainmail hoodies and give one to me…
Er, have you tried bondage gear shops/science-fiction conventions/historical reenactors? Incidentally, there’s more overlap between the three than one would think ; )
Sorry that was me above – I hit send before signing my name.
