The Scandi-catch up carries on. It's the inner guilt inside of me kicking in for cancelling not one but two trips to Copenhagen and Sweden in the space of a fortnight. The schedule for the just-gone-by Copenhagen Fashion Week was a little fatter but also seemed more representative of Scandinavia as a whole. From what I've seen from each Scandi country, it does seem to make sense to group up and make one super giant schedule that is representative of all the talent from Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands. Especially if it includes more gems like Batlak og Selvig who showed at this season Copenhagen as opposed to Oslo. Last time I was in Copenhagen for fashion week, a journalist dismissed
Oslo Fashion Week as a complete non-entity and basically said that it
was an event for locals to get excited about.
I can't speak for the rest of the Oslo schedule but it seems Batlak og Selvig would excite more than just the local crowd. Their S/S 10 collection was a bit of a ladylike jaunt/jump from their previous deconstructivist-type shapes. This particular set of dresses towards the end of the show caught my eye. Something about the frilled hippage, the attached belt and the hard-case looking textures of the crop tops all really works together as one singular dress even though I'd have to get a serious tum-sucking body or leotard underneath to have even a remote chance of pulling the ensemble off.
Their previous collections on their somewhat sparse website are very much concentrated on creating strong shapes without the need of sacrificing wearability… on the dress stands and stark spaces, the pieces take on a completely different mood than the frills and jewels of the gals above…
I like it! Especially the full skirts on it..
The ruffle skirtsssss, I adore.
wow! what a mix! i really like the belted ruffle skirts though!

This was one of the shows that caught my attention (apart from the bigger names). I like how they come up with interesting silhouettes and shapes, which are still really feminine, pretty and seem easy to wear (although I too would need a little extra coverage on the midiff area).
The first ones are like “Madonna meets Jane Wyman”, I think.
I’m absolutely in love with the fuller purple one in the last photo. It’s gorgeous.
Man, I’d be wearing under those belts.

Oh my! Such gorgeous pieces!!! Especially the pieces in the last pic (and the draped blue piece in it), stunning! 🙂

Love them, and best of all, they are norwegian:)
I’m not so crazy about the belts but I LOVE the skirts and crop tops, as well as the last picture.
I love the pictures as much I adore ruffle skirts!
i appreciate all that scandinavia has to offer. people say the same thing about LA fashion week, but i have a feeling it will be more and more relevant over time (just not too much right now)
Have you checked out Fam Irvoll? Her website is rubbish but she showed some funny pieces under Oslo Fashion Week:

I believe u should really take the trip to Copenhagen Fashion Week next time. There were a lot of shows much better than Batlak & Selvig. The pictures are more flattering than in reality. The fabrics seemed stiff (in a slightly cheap way) and the designs a bit boring.
Just my point of view;)
Love the blog tho – u have such an amazing eye for fashion and style. Keep up the good work;)

I LOVE Scandinavian fashion. A lot. I hope there’s features on it in magazines in years to come.
I would love to layer one of these belted dresses over a body suit/body hose of some description.
belts around a naked waist reminds me of a carrie bradshaw outfit! although i don’t think these extreme crop tops have caught on, the topshop slightly cropped vests seem the popular alternative
p.s. just catching up on google reader, have about twenty stylebubble posts to read, you are so impressive susie!
ups! I just post about them too! designs are just incredible, the textures, volumes…! I felt in love with this brand!!!
