>> Obviously I wasn't just going to don a pair of desert boots and leaf crunch wearing the birthday suit… the boots needs some serious outfitting to take on the activity that is leaf crunching. Given that autumn is my favourite season, I'm dutybound to do the season justice by going with cliched codes of autumnal attire such as mixed plaid, jaunty scarves and gloves that don't necessarily keep the hands warm but are there for aesthetic value. I'll happily go with those cliched codes especially to accomodate this Harris Tweed cape that was a collaboration with Beyond the Valley (hopefully some New Yorkers got to see BYT in action as part of the LES/Newburgh Quarter 'Wish You Were Here' boutique swapping programme…). Initially I was going to go for a Sherlock Holmes-dedicated outfit given that Guy Ritchie's flick is coming out this year… alas, I was lacking some proper tweed trousers, the right hat and a pipe to really make the ensemble truly shine. Instead, I've resorted to ol' fashioned autumnal check mixing to make this cape the perfect leaf-crunching partner in crime…
(Vintage red and white checked shirt, vintage pale blue and cream checked wrap skirt, Universal Works special edition scarf – stolen from Steve, Natascha Stolle for ASOS leather gloves, Tabio knee high ribbed socks, Liberty print Clarks desert boots, Harris Tweed x Beyond the Valley cape)
I totally love this. This cape is amazing, and I am a massive cape fan.
Also I wondered what the Clarks were like on as I had my eye on this pair, they look lovely!
xx

Love this! The cape looks very vintage, the plaids make me want to go play outside! The liberty print is an inspiring contrast – It all comes together quite nicely!
Red is a good color for you.

This is a masterclass in mixing patterns and autumnal colours.
I think this is one of my favourite outfits you have shared on your blog!

I gotta admit, I usually look at your outfits and love them, but not to wear myself. This ensemble however I would definitely be able to throw together myself. Good look.
Harris Tweed makes me feel like waving my arms and making gasping sounds. It’s just SO GOOD.
I can’t even believe how good you look.. Love the layers and the patterns here, but even more the volumes.
And the hair! Hot:)

That cape is absolutely wonderful, perfect for the autumn and leave crunching.
LOVE the Autumn feel to these photos!
I really would like to get my hands on this cape, I checked BtV’s website but it isn’t on there, so guessing I shall have to call and ask about it. How much was it if you don’t mind me asking?
beautiful and funny. I really like how you managed to mix and reinterpret the classical drapery fabrics typical of English menswear tailoring, using bright colors, new volumes and fun accessories. A little Paul Smith, a little Jean Paul Gaultier: genius!
I love how it’s classy and funky at the same time. I think the hair bun suits your face well too! Have you tried tying up your hair so it looks like a bow? Such as http://www.lacarmina.com/blog/2009/03/hair-tutorial-ribbon-shaped-up-do-alice-and-the-pirates-jacket-betsey-johnson-skirt/
Could be very cute on you!
sweet! i loooooooooooove the cape!

Well played, Susie Bubble, well played. I don’t know how you manage to mix all those colors, textures and patterns together and still make it a look. But it looks great.

Stumbled across this on Twitter this morning. Such a gorgeous cape AND in Harris Tweed!
I went up to The Outer Hebrides to the only existing mill still producing Harris Tweed in November for our AW10 fabrics and loved every minute of it! Such a wonderful place and a wonderful history.
