Packing it all on the Back

>> It's rather unfortunately that I ignorantly poo poo-ed Tumblr image blogs a few posts ago and what ensues here is another image-heavy, word-lite post.  But, but, in my defense, I do think that all credit needs to go to the wonderful illustrator Kate Wilson of Little Doodles (still enough time to get some Crimbo cards from her on Etsy) and with this one illustration here, that requires an ounce of reading…

Backpack

…rightly reminded me to talk up my two backpack purchases and feel proud of them as Kate quite eloquently puts it, they are "wonderful receptacle(s) for all of my bird related accoutrements."  These are two backpacks that do indeed hold flasks, packets of bird seeds and possibly a perch too if I do a bit of creative shoving-in, but of course they are fit for holding other things too and most importantly distribute weight equally on the shoulders (that's my mother talking!).   This vintage tan leather one was bought a while ago on Brick Lane after my illegal flea market sale.  It kind of defeated my whole "Let's clear out the wardrobe!" strategy when immediately within five minutes of end-of-sale, I had already bought another new item…

…but, it's a co-share item with Steve so I really bought it for the good of both of us *ahem*…

The one I've got strapped to my heavy coated back here was always meant to happen.  Ever since I saw the Swash print rucksacks at their studio, I knew it would be mine…eventually.  When I was doing the Regent Studios sample sale rounds (which I believe is still on next Thurs?), it was time for the rucksack to be mine.  In my head, I tried to palm off the purchase as a possible co-share item for Steve to use occasionally.  Unlike the tanned leather number above though, this is a resolutely girly sort of backpack that also happens to be heart-shaped depending on what it's filled with.  Feeble feeble attempt to justify a purchase…doh!

  1. Love that Swash print, very unique – you can’t go wrong with a modern twist on the nautical/chains silk scarf adored by OAPs the world over. x

  2. Ah, I’ll never forget those swash backpacks you posted aaages ago. Love at first site. The robin’s egg colour and strappy details are the best bit of this bag (unintentional alliteration there, please excuse). And I’ve been looking for a simple, lovely bag like the tan one you’ve picked up, what a lucky find! I’m sure Steve feels just as lucky, haha!

  3. They are both AWESOME. As a student, I am constantly on the lookout for backpacks and these two both get A+s.

  4. Backpacks are great! I could not have survived university without them…although, now a little older I like something a little more sophisticated. It all depends on the outfit of course 🙂

  5. so cute 🙂
can they fit a laptop? my main issue with school bags is that there seems to be nothing stylish than fit my mac.

  6. Dani: My Swash one can fit a netbook but definitely not a Macbook or anything big….but the leather one can fit bigger laptops…

  7. I love the first backpack! And Kates drawing is brilliant! 🙂 I carry a backpack too alot of the time because I get back pain carrying a one-shoulder bag but its not as cool as yours. Its a dark denim Jansport bag. I actually bought a Jansport backpack when I was in school (about 12 yrs ago – scary!) It was the coolest bag I could have imagined having at the time. And when the zipper on it broke Jansport replaced it cos they have a 40yr guarantee. So I’ll probably be using that backpack for a very long time!

  8. i love Kate Wilson. and took note of that wonderful illustration. cuteness! who doesn’t want to see tiny birds with dollops of whipped cream on their heads. i do!
it’s funny. i have ALWAYS been a knapsack girl. and i make everything but. so obviously there is work to be done.
i love that 2nd knapsack. alot.
