Floater Jacket

>>  Manuela Dack's initial collection/s first impressed me via Machine-A, her sole stockist when I tried out one of her lovely lovely leather jackets that had the simplest of juxtaposition by way of a sheath of pleated chiffon running down as a panel.  So, why ruin a good thing when you're first getting started, eh?  Dack has extended this style to a bigger jacket selection for S/S 11 and presented it as a film/photo/hanging jacket installation during LFW.  Nothing intense or complicated to analyse here other than these jackets contrast the perfect amount of tough and soft with each other.  Having tried on a jacket from the previous collection too, I can attest to the protective as well as delicate qualities of the jacket.  I suppose in the scheme of many, MANY leather jackets, it's hard to be 100% stand out and original. However, with Dack's touch of chiffon in shades of lilac, nude and black floating along the front and sleeves of a jacket that doesn't look too 'stiff' or 'hard', it goes right to the core of what I'm personally looking for in a leather jacket that doesn't have too many of those conontations that come with the rest of the leather jacket pack…

  1. It’s an interesting design, to be sure. But to me, it’s like a built in scarf without the benefit of keeping your neck warm. On warmer days, over a simple sheath or worn over a turtleneck might be a good way to wear this one.

  2. I agree w/ Diane. It looks like a scarf to me, which isn’t a problem provided you can take it off. Which, it sounds like you can’t. The shape of the jacket is really pretty though.

  3. so beautiful, it seems like it really shouldn’t work but it does!
read your article in pop and enjoyed it- great choices

  4. I like it and all but feel like it should be shorter. Those are some damn dangerous floater sleeves after all. Think Tube, Taxi, Lift; Problem
Then again nowhere does it say this is ‘ready to wear’. Could it be just for our viewing pleasure?

  5. Diane/Nickie: It’s definitely not supposed to be a scarf because of the way it’s sewn onto the jacket…. I tried on one for a shoot and it’s basically supposed to be a panel that hangs for embellishment… I quite like that it serves not purpose though other than to soften the jacket…
Cococollage: Hehe… like THOSE practical problems ever got in my way…

  6. I can understand why they extended the style to a bigger selection, that is one pretty perfect jacket. This is a style with some serious legs!

  7. Hi Susie! I was wondering if you knew how much those jackets retail for? They are so gorgeous!
