Towards the end of Paris Fashion Week, when one eyeball starts rolling up in odd ways and my skin starts flaking onto people, I seek nourishment in a numerous ways – one is to find nourishing soupy ramen because I would have gotten sick of eating frites by then and the other is to do showrooms when the schedule is a bit free-er. I fash-it-down in flats and go walksies in Marais seeing as much as I can. Nicholas Kirkwood's showroom is a key stop and starts off the season's bout of shoe nourishment well, because I've found that they have the FULL collection in Paris and you don't get to see everything back in London. That's where I ogled the Rodarte collab shoes and now here's more from his mainline collection including the odd shoe story of the season, that might divide audiences, but that's ok because that was totally intentional. It's already been covered by Style.com/Vogue.com but I did want to add my own thoughts on this kitten heel/platform hybrid. On a practical point, it solves that tipping forward wobbly thing you get with silly kitten heels and then aesthetically, it's just sort of…erm… BLOODY great. Yup, there's no real rhyme or reason why I like it – I just do. I'm sure detractors though could count the reasons off their fingers why they don't like it…
There's a defiant silliness to the shoe which probably balances out with the ever-expanding range of shoes that Kirkwood does every season as they get biiiiiger and biiiiiger (a London store is on its way!)…
Perhaps quasi-naysayers will go for sensible black? Me? I'm all for the tassels and pastel trim…
Or just pump for the classic heel and go for tassel action here…
In an ever-varying collection, Kirkwood delves into pastel tones, lace and frou-frou, albeit controlled and made rigorous with those signature shapes. I'm finding that spotting Kirkwood shoes is getting to be textbook easy… alright, could be the twice-annual nourishing showroom visits but still, there's something in the arch of the heel, the heel shape and detailing that is becoming concrete for Kirkwood…
Other Kirkwood shapes get revied with new skins to add to the bronze/cinnamon-y tones that has been floating around quite a bit for S/S 11…
Weirdly though, the graphicism of these black ones stood out as well as some simpler pumps that were curved and cut-out on one side… possibly the years are piling on top of me and making me think of so-called shoe classicisms…
…then I stop myself from such silly notions and go back to hankering after colourful trims – loving these new colourways on the butterfly sandal of S/S 10 which I have in hot hot fuschia… hmmmm… I've never been one to buy shoe styles in multiple colours but hey, perhaps this is another signage of my ye olde years. I seem to recall my mother obsessing about buying EXACTLY the same thing in all colours available. Oh dear…
I vote for more squidgy padded ankle straps, seen in these sandals as well as a new version of the negative-space wedge shape… solves the problem of straps digging into ankles and also gives you something to play with when you get fidgety fingers at dinner.
Another proper look at the wonderful Peter Pilotto colalb shoes to round things off? Goddamn some lucky peeps for getting their hands on them already (*cough cough* Natalie Joos – I jest of course because Joos' blog is really really lovely…)

The ninth picture down, the black shoes with the platform under the toes, they are wonderful, they’d probably go with anything, very versatile!
So many shoess! In all my blog visits today.. most of the posts have been about shoes and that last thing I said was that I need a new shoe to covet.. I think I found it! Thanks!
The baby-blue Kirkwoods stole my heart! And I’m remaining on the fence on those kitten heel platforms…for now. If I did them, I would go all the way in pastels and tassels!!
