Yesterday was the first time in what feels like a bajillion years that I've walked the gauntlet that is Oxford Street and been into each and every one of my 'routine' shops (Selfridges, H&M, Liberty, Topshop etc etc‚Ķ) and done ACTUAL perusing. I realise that after every fashion week, it seems to be something that I NEED to do to a) get a grip back on reality – i.e the clothes that I'm actually going to be buying and b) react against the forward-thinking shows from the season and get back into the mode of looking at clothes as a consumer. This time round, I went the whole hog and despite not coming away with a lot of things, it feels good to nourish the eyes. I say that as an evil airhead consumer who of course is promulgating Shop,Shop,Shop,Spend,Spend,Spend. Thrifitier types, feel free to tear me to bits‚Ķ
Not one but two of the things that came away with me was a result of me doing the proper 'pro-like' thing of going to the Whistles S/S 11 press day (no pictures I'm afraid until a few weeks time, but I can tell you that an exacting shade of Flamingo Pink is on the cards and I would like me some of that‚Ķ) and then nipping in next door to do some shopping. Be it stars, cats or naked ladies (ahem Chanel and Miu Miu), things that don't look like they should be on neat blouses and tailored trousers are most welcome at the moment. Whistles have chosen the lighting bolt as their weapon of choice and have struck them quite neatly on a shirt and matching trouser that for me, one couldn't really be without the other. This all sits well with my airhead mode of shopping where I can fanny about with MULTIPLE hangers in one hand and airily say "I don't need to try it…! I'll take them!" (To be fair, I don't ever try things on in-store as it just slows me down but I'm constructing a revived shopper's tale here!)
The combination of a cute motif and neat n' tidy bits of shirting can't be solely attributed to Miu Miu's oft-blogged S/S 10 collection (I now annoyingly recall that I once had a Peter Pan collar shirt with ponies galloping arround the collars… where is it and does it still fit me?) but I do salute the trickle on effect that has resulted in this ensemble which I feel absolutely must not be separated from each other.
P.S. No make-up-ing continues here. Yes, I have THREE more minutes in the morning to get Steve up to take pics…
(Worn with Fannie Schiavoni chainmail bra top, Lynn Cockburn belt, Lanvin heels)
Gosh, I’d really hope that thrify spenders wouldn’t tear you apart! I don’t know why, but why come to your site if they’d be so disapproving of your spending?
That being said, I’m LOVING the lightning bolt on lightning bolt look.
I was loving the mixed prints and colors then looked closely and realized they were lightning bolts! this is yet again another of your amazing looks that I fall in love for again and again 🙂
It does feel good to just look, it gives me ideas of how to play with what I already have.
Oooh, they look great matching – I love how you’ve styled them. I was too enamoured with a tiger-esque print top so only left with the lightning trousers, now wishing I’d gone crazier when I had the chance with the Grazia 25% off.
mmmmmm that combination is scrumptious. the fabric looks beautifully luxurious.
and i think maybe i need those trousers?
one of my favourite outfit of yours. genius
Sometimes I have to stop myself from coming on your blog simply because you act as an catalyst for my impulse to shop. Maybe I should start billing you?
You look great sans make-up!
Love this outfit!! Especially the pants, I’m a sucker for high waisted loose pants!

Something about the bra seems a little silly but I love the inclusion of both color patterns that they work with. It is refreshing and doesn’t clash.

Megan: I bought it directly from a Whistles store but you can buy both pieces online on Whistles http://www.whistles.co.uk or you can buy the blouse from ASOS me thinks…

the trousers are the best
What a great print! Being thrifty is great but you cant do it all the time!
Wow, these are both stunning. Might have to save some pennies for a trip to Whistles. And I can’t belieeeeeve that this is you with no make-up. Why do you ever even bother?!

The outfit is lovely and I’ve always admired the chain-mail bra top, that is a real piece you’re working there!
But those shoes? Those SHOES are like pieces of heaven. I never used to be a shoe girl… but recently I’ve been (fashion voice) ‘dying’ over them! Unfortunately I can’t image the H&M collab throwing out a pair quite as nice as your real-deals!

The bees and the birds, the insects and the lightning bolts… Love how you put it all together. I’m also a big fan of Fannie Schiavonie’s body jewellery.

To be frank, I haven’t really been following your blog in recent months, so I’d forgotten just how amazingly wacky and creative you could be with clothing! I love all the little quirky lightning bolts, but in particular i love the contrast between the cream blouse and the black trousers. Unbeatable 🙂

I love the shape of those pants, and the look of the metal mesh bra over the shirt. I just don’t have the chutzpah to carry off the eclectic layering you wear so well!
Oh my gosh the pants, the PANTS!! I don’t even feel I have to mention the fantastic shoes – they speak for themselves. You have stolen the show. The print on print is beautiful – the soft pink color seals the deal. Beautiful outfit.
xoxo,
Carrie
You look stunning! Absolutely love this outfit. 🙂 Thanks for being a daily inspiration!
i love it. and how perfectly paired with matching shoes 😉 i prefer the lightning bolts to the little kitties or sparrows… haha…
Love the artful mixing of prints. The pants fit you well, even though they have that very relaxed look. And a chainmail bra! WOW!
