BFA = Birthday For An Age

>> I think I'm allowed a lazy outfit post when this is the weekend where I have chosen to extend my birthday celebrations over the course of three days.  Yes, it's not until Monday and yes, it's not a particularly remarkable age that I'm celebrating but anything that warrants extensive feasting with multiple cuisines involved and the possibility of three different cakes is a-ok by me.

This is actually a re-enactment of an outfit as a friend of mine said I was apparently failing the public (as in… her…) by not posting a pic of what I wore to the British Fashion Awards on Tuesday.  Regarding the awards themselves, I have nothing of note to comment on other than…

…YAY for Patrick Grant of E.Tautz winning the Menswear award (unexpected considering the competition…), DOUBLE YAY for Nicholas Kirkwood winning the Accessory Designer Award (totally expected…), double YAY for Husam el Odeh for winning Emerging Talent Accessory even though to me, he's not really 'emerging', QUADRUPLE YAY for Meadham Kirchhoff for winning Emerging Talent Ready-To-Wear… totally totally deserved.

I didn't really have an outfit quandry so much as an outfit rush-on seeing as I came back from Hong Kong thinking I had AGES until the BFAs and then realising AGES actually meant errr…just one day.  I had another option than didn't quite work out which is just as well as the dress I did choose kind of ended up being as shocking as wearing a dress rife with colours, pattern, shapes.  I don't have an LBD back-up dress, the type that magazines tout as 'essential' to any wardrobe.  I don't necessarily disagree with that sentiment but I've just never ever had the need to 'fall back' on a dress.  You either have a dress or you don't – falling back on something feels a little downcast and a little insulting to whatever dress you're 'falling back' on.  This LBD is definitely not one to be falling-back-on.  I spied it on Merchant Archive's website and then trekked up to Kensal Rise to check it out in person, wanting to buy it anyway, BFA's or not.  It was the bedazzled, pearly cuffs and the stiffened fabric that swung it for me rather than it's LBD status.  However, emphasis on the 'Little' in the acronym… it's dangerously short and had it not been for Wolford's super opaque tights, I might have put the dress over trousers.  I still might.

Back to the shock factor though… clearly my non-existent relationship with LBDs is a well-known fact, as numerous people came up at the awards and remarked how different I looked.  Translation, each comment meant to say "Wow, you look so different when you're not buried under hundreds of layers, patterns and colours…".  I'd maintain that I'm more of a chameleon than that but then again, calling yourself a style chameleon probably doesn't make you one so I'll just shut up and admit to my own banal predicability.
