Young and…?

Y&P

… Posh?

Ok, I can just about scrape the 'Young' bit though compared with the other sixteen bloggers that are part of Glamour's newly launched Young & Posh blogging network, I think 'Young' might be pushing it a bit.  This was particularly impressed upon me when I arrived at the campaign photoshoot back in January ear-ly in the morning faced with fresh-skinned fashion bloggers, all energised and raring to be shot by Garance Dore and there I was, haggard, sleepy and plodding away on my keyboard trying to catch up with UK time.

Then there's the Posh bit which if I'm honest had me in a bit of a wrangle with the peeps at Glamour which went something like…

Me: Errr… you do know that 'posh' has a sort of negative connotation in the UK?  And that when Vicky B used it, it was sort of in an ironic way because err…she isn't actually posh in the strictest sense.

Them: It means something different in the US!

Me: Errr… ok… I trust you like the nodding sheep that I am.

I can't ascertain exactly what 'posh' means across the Atlantic but I guess I'll have to defer to the original acronym meaning of the word "Port Out, Starboard Home" just to be abstract and distant.  I've also noticed my voice gets brandied as 'posh' sounding whenever videos come up of me.  Not sure what that says about me but I just needed to put it out there that I'm not really 'posh' in the sense that I know it to be.

In any case, pedantic wrangling with words doesn't take away anything from what is essentially an amalgamation of bloggers on Glamour's Y&P, exposing them to a new audience through separate blog posts.  So over the next few months, I'll be splitting up my time for some breezy blogging that sits there… a mixture of outfit pics (I'm ready to be torn apart by what looks to be a critical readership…), fashion week tidbits obviously because of the upcoming month and spillage from this blog, where I have no limit of word and picture length.

The list of the other sixteen bloggers that are part of the network are a mix of ones I do know and unfortunately ones that I don't.  *hangs head in shame* Will get onto some Bloglovin' research in due course…

The Glamourai, Trop Rouge, Greta Guide, Cherry Blossom Girl, All the Pretty Birds, Sincerely Jules, Runway Hippie, Natalie Off Duty, Chic Muse, Jess Zaino, Beauty Sweet Spot, Mode Dโ€šร„รดAmour, Blue is in Fashion This Year, Turned Out, Sea of Shoes, Cupcakes & Cashmere

I'm quite excited about the campaign imagery that is coming out shot by Garance… four words… JEWEL TONE COLOUR BLOCKING… today has turned out to be trend-i-licious hasn't it?  See?  I tacked on 'licious' onto a word for no reason.  Posh, I am not…

  1. In the US I think posh is more elegance, and refined, stylish. Rather than snobbish upper classes like we use it here in the UK.

  2. Totally posh, Susie. Though – apart of you – I only know Maya and have heard of the Sea of Shoes lady and Cherry Blossom this collaboration is really exciting. Keep up the proper English language, dear!

  3. hahah so funny that the name is young and posh – i wouldn’t really associate fashion blogging with being posh at all!
a better word would probably individual, unique, or stylish
    definitely NOT POSH!

  4. I totally agree with you about the title. ‘Young and Posh’ is really off-putting to me.
Found some great blogs through this – thanks!

  5. I agree with above about the ‘young and posh’ really is off putting, but still! ๐Ÿ™‚ x

  6. it’s nice to know in that group of bloggers, at least one of them is interesting and eloquent.
    you write incredibly well.
and the title “young and posh” is rather pretentious (which fashion blogger isn’t either ways)(including yours truly)

  7. ‘Posh’ has so many negative connotations here in the UK, doesn’t it… especially when you look at the current government. I long for the day we live in a meritocracy! But would you accept it’s all relative and about perception, and if you – a UCL graduate – arrived in Birkenhead (for example), then in that context you would be viewed as posh?

  8. That is one strangely named “blogging network”, but they seem to have chosen well at any rate (like you, I find I don’t know quite a few of the bloggers but they all seem like nice blogs).

  9. Well some of those bloggers are indeed posh in the UK sense of the word, a lot of them are people from privileged backgrounds and it shows on their blogs, but not all. So to taint everyone with the same brush is a bit unfair.
As someone living in the UK, to me sounds like a horribly pretentious name and i personally would not use it. The blog is not going to be read just in the US.

  10. Oh don’t worry if your not familiar with some of these bloggers it’s not like there’s much content in their blogs anyway, plus I can’t really say that I like their personal sense of style either. I mean to me most of them are just bland, unimaginative trend worshippers. As for the title it’s obvious that it has not been well thought through and regardless of which meaning of the word posh you use it still only reflects a few of the individuals featured. Overall I think it’s a very narrow minded title.

  11. ouch, dislike the layout, too small pics and I hate the “read more” button… too bad, but i will just keep on following you here

  12. I hope it is ok for me to ask this, but are the bloggers being compensated for their work? I remember your tweets and facebook discussion about getting what one is due for one’s hard work. Keep up the great writing.

  13. hum…perhaps they don’t have better word describing your eccentric style?
hah.. nonetheless, I voted you already.

  14. Waiting for the Old and Proletarian Bloggers, where I will be Queen. But whatever is good for your career is fine by me. xo
