Stolen Moments

>> I'm jumping in with a few Stolen moments… specifically Stolen Girlfriend's Club moments because a) their hilarious video of their impromtu show held in a supermarket, catching shoppers and supermarket attendants by surprise has been getting a bit of a web-buzz and b) I have been heaping praise upon Stolen Girlfriend's Club outerwear, as I've been wearing a leather jacket and coat from the latest menswear collection quite heavily, prompting people to ask "Is that Margiela/Raf Simons?"  "Nope it's Stolen Girlfriend's Club…"

Kudos on the New Zealand working with Red Bull in the subtlest and effective of ways… so much so that I barely detected the drinks brand's sponsorship.  To be fair, I was distracted by the flame print dresses wafting by the fruit and veg aisle as well as the bemused expressions on shoppers and shop assistants' faces.

The dude in the video with the same jacket as this has ever so slightly more bulk to fill it out but I've been liking that touch of roominess in a jacket that only means more layers can be bunged underneath it…

…which of course is coming in handy here in Moscow!  I bring you a little piccy postcard before I'm heading out for what is meant to be a long night (this is truly a 24 hour city) wrapped up in this Stolen Girlfriend's Club mens swirly patterned wool coat with zippered sleeves and pockets.  Note, there are two jumpers and two Heat Tech tops underneath…

  1. what a fun video this is- thanks for sharing.
and i must say-that jacket you’re wearing in the first shots is just amaze. love it
    xx

  2. Totally agree with what you say about the jacket; it’s not very often you find a good jacket that can also accomodate several layers underneath and still look good! 🙂

  3. Yay…I come from New Zealand and I am a total SGC fan! Thanks for sharing them on your blog. I missed the show–too far away after I got the tweet as to which supermarket it was, but I watched the vid a fair few times.

  4. The waistband/ribbon of that OC skirt looks creased, am I right? Because I have the same problem with that skirt & I thought it was just awkward me!

  5. I love the one dude that is smiling as if to say “I never thought I’d get to be so close to a model in REAL LIFE.”

  6. I actually found the Red Bull sponsorship completely obvious and distracting. For me it lessened how artistic the video was. Although I understand why corporate sponsorship is necessary for funding projects like this. It was just a tad disappointing to see.
On the upside, I like the statement the video makes on the state of dress in society. I know here in the states I’ll go into grocery stores and see people wearing pajamas. I like the idea of bringing fashion and style to the most everyday and mundane of places, as well as bringing it to those who may never have the opportunity to sit at a real runway show.

  7. I do adore SGC, not just because they’re from NZ but because they’re more exciting than most established NZ designers like Karen Walker and Kate Sylvester. However, I always feel as if their price point is completely at odds with their target audience. For example, dresses are around $300+ but the fit is made for lanky 15 year old school girls. The clothes aren’t forgiving and I can barely fit my NZ-dairy-bred-and-fed girth into their rather small sizes. Given the average size for a NZ women is a size 14, the rapidly shrinking sizes of new NZ designers like SGC, Ruby, Twenty Seven Names, and Lonely Hearts Club always feels like a slap in the face. Anyway, the point is nothing new! I really did enjoy that video and the snowy Susie pics.

  8. I don’t know anything about Stolen Moments, but that video was lots of fun to watch! I can’t imagine that happening in my local Sainsbury’s or how I’d react, haha.
Both outfits are wonderful, you look warm and cozy :] The first dress looks like a crinkled watercolor painting or something. The second outfit is perfection! There’s that collar again (which I love) – paired with the bold necklace and the matching tones in the trousers – so good.

  9. Love the last outfit especially the faux fur skirt and the pop of colour that came from the orange leather collar! Wish they were mine. Anyway, hope you’re having fun in Moscow! Cant wait to see what other outfits you’re wearing in Moscow.

  10. It actually looks like the Rick Owens leather from s/s 10… but there you go. Almost bought it in fact, so… touche… instead i opted for a beautifully constructed brown one, half price at Pollyanna.com 😉 That’s for you Rita!

  11. This is epic! Btw where did u get the leather jacket from? I haven’t seen it in NZ and I want it so badly :$
