Kron Kron Candy

It would have been a HEINOUS TRAVESTY (yes, caps are a must…) if I went all he way to Reykjavik and DIDN'T go to see the beautiful couple behind Kron Kron, Hugrun and Magni, who have the multi-tasking identity of being a) designers of a a shoe label (called Kron by Kron Kron) that has spawned s.o. m.a.n.y. posts on this blog because of their delightful confectionary-esque designs, b) owners of a multi-label boutique that in addition to their own label sells other labels too as well as having a separate shoe store nearby too and now they are c) spawners of a clothing label that is now into its second season of pairing pretty frocks and hoisery along with their eponymous shoes.

IMG_9046
(Magni and Hugrun – god damn their 'accidental colour co-ordination that looks magnificent when placed in the context of their store Kron Kron)

That long ass list can only mean an indulgent picture fest here because when I say that Kron Kron give gooooood shoe eye candy, I literally mean that you almost want to reach into your computer screen and attempt to lift out a pair of shoes, how I envision e-shopping will be like when they discover that Wonka Vision ACTUALLY works.  I'm not going to bother with being too exacting about what season is which because if you're at all familiar with Kron by Kron Kron shoes, it's the unique colour combinations and little nuggets of detailing that are consistent traits in their work.  Sure some seasons might be more about boots and wedges and others more about T-bar straps and lower heels amd there might be a varying degree of bows and ruffles but the fact remains that Hugrun and Magni seem to have an intuitive feel for colour combinations that on paper shouldn't work but in shoe form present you with a dizzying number of styles for you to choose from.  I said this before but I think it's a case of closing your eyes and picking one at random…

It doesn't help that in both Kron Kron stores (the shoe store and the boutique), the shoes are presented on coloured blocks that only makes for a delightful backdrop for this shoe pick n' mix extravaganza…

IMG_8970

For two seasons now, Hugrun and Magni have also added hoisery to their Kron by Kron Kron own-label which makes entire sense when you see these stripy gradiated tights paired with the shoes as seen on this shop staff member…

IMG_8956

IMG_8965

Magni's grandmother also created some traditional cross-stitch patterns that were then turned into prints for these socks and tight designs that recall the best bits of Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette (yes, that old fashion inspiration chestnut… )

IMG_8942

Their love of interesting hoisery extends to a pretty magnificent selection in their multi-label boutique which is pretty vast by Reykjavik standards and if I'm honest blows other stores in the city out of the water in their selection and breadth of stock…

IMG_8962

IMG_8963

It's a bit depressing that I go all the way to Reykjavik to find Sonia Rykiel and Tsumori Chisato shoes that I've never really even seen in London but they all fit into the store's promotion of all things happy, pretty and exuberant that is also reflected in the buying of the clothes…

IMG_8967

IMG_8968

… including again a lot of Sonia Rykiel, Sonia by Sonia Rykiel, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Peter Jensen, Eley Kishimoto as well as local labels like Hildur Yeoman and of course their own Kron by Kron Kron wares.  In short, it's a giant amount of colour, a large dollop of print and a dash of whimsy all mixed together and presented in an equally vibrant store that definitely felt like a fashion hub in Reykjavik where girls, women (I saw a 50-something lady buying the gradiated stripy tights – that makes me very happy…) and a few guys too convene to joyfully browse and shop.

IMG_9023

For the dudes, there's a selection of Opening Ceremony, bStore, Velour and other easy-going Scandi brands…

IMG_9002

As I mentioned before, Kron Kron's latest bit of expansion is their clothing line which for S/S 11 includes a lot of colour blocking that mirrors what the shoes do in terms of colour combinations as well as introducing details such as bows, ruffles and pleats that also feature on the shoes.  For Hugrun and Magni though, clothes were always in the pipeline but they wanted to tread carefully, building their shoe collection (it started in 2008) and then introducing elements like tights and simple satin colour blocked dresses first, which incidentally here match the corrugated iron houses of Reykjavik…

These Kron by Kron Kron velvet frocks that are perfect for flouncing about in along with their shoes and hoisery.  You can see more from the clothing collection on their online store as well as their blog

IMG_9000

At Hugrun and Magni's new studio space which is MAHUSSIVE and faces a magnificent view, we took a look at the new A/W 11-12 clothing and shoe collection, which also featured in the Reykjavik Fashion FestivalPhotographer Saga Sig's lookbook images here have definitely helped to propel Kron Kron's shoes all over the blogosphere where her images are reblogged/Tumblr-ed and generally well-loved…

IMG_9031

I'll have to rely on the fact that Saga will once again be shooting the lookbook images for this new A/W 11-12 collection because I made a bit of a Style Bubble blunder on the night of the second night of the Reykjavik Fashion Festival when Kron by Kron Kron were showing as they had an intermission during the show and as the second portion started, I couldn't make it back to my seat in time (and somebody had already taken it…) so was crouching down by the end of the catwalk and couldn't really take pictures properly…

IMG_9028

The one thing I did catch was this shell print, which is a big motif for this collection… again, how did Hugrun and Magni make shells look like sweeties?  There's definitely a confectionary-based streak in their design skills…

IMG_9033

IMG_9131

IMG_9132

Once again at their studio, I was faced with a dizzying choice of shoes…

IMG_9040

…which was made worse by their A/W 11-12 collection featuring more wedge styles as well as a new lace-up, mid-heel, low platform style that looks a little Victoriana…

IMG_9042

IMG_9043

IMG_9039

It goes without saying that at the end of the Kron Kron fest, some physical Kron Kron had to come back with me from Reykjavik.  From their clothing line, it had to be this stripy gradiated tunic where I stupidly forgot to get the matching tights  as well to complete the perfectly tuned rainbow effect…

IMG_0232
(Worn with Piers Atkinson cherry headdress – yes, it's the inky blue version of the one Anna dello Russo wore, Issey Miyake Pleats Please skirt, Heavy Machine shoes)

Steve helped me pick out the shoes because in the end, I couldn't decide and now I'm finding that there's no point trying to match clothes to them – just go with the colours and clash away…

Then there are those printed socks and tights, with rococo touches and Wedgewood blue undertones, to add to the heaping pile of printed socks that needs its own drawer soon.  I actually have two pairs of socks here to give away, one in the design on the left in the pic below, and one in the design on the right on the last pic, so just leave a comment with your email address in the email field and I'll pick two peeps at random and send them away for your printed hoisery enjoyment…

  1. Bows and ruffles are a mainstay of my wardrobe, so this is a real find! Now to actually GO to Reykjavik….
Particularly love the gradient tights and the socks on the left in the penultimate picture – they look as if they should be decorating the cover of a 19th edition of a Jane Austen novel.

  9. My only problem with Kron Kron shoes? Picking one pair up (not 300). So a big thank you for the best advice you could give to a person like me. I close my eyes and…
How did you know I need their socks and tights in my drawer?
PS: everyone needs a printed socks/tights drawer in her life.

  16. Hello, I’ve never commented on your blog before, but I’ve been reading it since last summer when I discovered your site! It’s always never too late to discover something, I suppose!
Anyway, I wanted to say that this is such a great feature on Kron Kron! I really love the fact that you’ve put up so many pictures on their shoes, because they really are like show eye candy! Oh, what I would do to get my hands on one of them shoes!
Beautiful clothes too! And oh, I really love your second outfit, with the Dries Van Noten trousers! Even when the colours don’t match, it all works beautifully somehow!
    Love,

  30. Kron by Kron Kron has been the subject of some of my favourite Style Bubble posts, I can’t possibly pass up the chance to shamelessly chase their tights.
(and the clothes look amazing, I normally detest floaty tunics but the one you’re wearing does an amazing job of not being all hackneyed hippie)

  31. One more reason to want to go to Reykjavik!! My fancy sock drawer would love to welcome a pair of those lovelies!
(Just discovered your blog and it’s one of my new favorites!)

  32. I have that same sweat top from James… or does it belong to the other half? hmmmm

  33. I like the fact that Kron Kron shoes donā€šĆ„Ć“t really follow trends and look pretty timeless ā€šĆ„Ƭ neither retro nor ultra modern.

  34. Ok, I LOVE those shoes! I wish we had access to an actual Kron Kron store somewhere here in the Southern US. Alas, mall stores it is, and I will just have to covet Kron Kron from afar until I can travel abroad šŸ™

  35. I need ALL of those shoes in my life! Those tights are nifty, too!

  36. the tights make the legs look like beautiful china ceramic!
    so pretty!

  37. Holy flip, I’d love to win some socks, especially the ones in the top left! I’m in the US though, so I’m not sure the giveaway is open to me. Thanks!

  38. I am in love with hosery, it is and under valued part of fashion!! Love the blog post. <3

  39. I’m not really a shoe person (I mean I wear shoes, of course, but you know what I mean), but I would endure great pain for some of those pairs.

  41. I thought at first the cherry headdress was one of those pairs of oversize novelty sunglasses — now I’m pondering making a hat out of oversize sunglasses…

  42. ‘wow’ is all I can really say. the mixture of textures, patterns and colours blow my mind.
    also, ICELAND ^_^

  43. Brilliant Tights!! Don’t you find it scary how easily destroyed they are though?
leaving my email for the giveaway xxxxx

  44. Also – I’m going to Iceland in a few months and this is making me more and more excited!

  45. It’s all so insanely cute! I really can’t wait until wonk a vision so I can finally get some of these lovelies.

  46. I’m so excited about those socks and tights! Winter has just begun in Brisbane and I’d love to start experimenting more with legwear.
    Thanks for the inspiration Susie.

  47. Hmm…what reason could I come up with for needing to go to Iceland? Your description of the locals shopping at Kron Kron has planted a seed of imagining myself living in the cozy town speaking Icelandic, drinking lots of coffee and living/working in my art studio :+) Those tights are simply to die for!

  48. Awesome socks! I never comment and do not want to sound like a groupie, but I just love your outfits. I would not dare to wear something like that myself…I cannot stand people staring :/ At least I get to enjoy such awesomeness through your blog šŸ™‚

  49. If happiness could be physically embodied in apparel form, Iā€šĆ„Ć“m pretty sure youā€šĆ„Ć“d get these Kron Kron creations. Everything is so festive and celebratory. The shoes demand attention with their boundless colours and countless details. The socks are gorgeous, warm, and whimsicalā€šĆ„Ā¶ perfect attributes to keep one immune to the perpetually rainy days of April.
    Greetings from Canada,
    June

  50. the cross-stitch designs on those tights are gorgeous!! and i love that magni’s grandmother stitched them!
a nice example of a traditional art form manifested in a very modern and wearable way. i especially like the placement of the design over the knee and ankle area in the first pair of the giveaway šŸ™‚
p.s. love the picturefests! keep ’em coming!

  51. Those last two pictures are excellent. I love the tights you’ve included in the shot. What brand are they?
I think those and the shoes gel really well together, some excellent photography.

  52. I’m coming out of eternal lurkdom for the socks in the first pic. That’s how much I love them…
    Love your blog!
    Julia

  57. um, um, trying to find something to say in a comment that I am writing because I am a greedy hosiery lover.
oh, and also, your two outfits here are so sunny !

  58. These tights are unbelievable! So so cute, the designs are totally inspiring.x

  59. How shoegasmic! I’m totally jealous, if I had been there I would have been like a kid in a candy store. The colors are as fabulous as the playful silhouettes!

  60. For lack of a better comment, sock it to me! This hosiery and shoe post is gorgeous! Now to make my way to Reykjavik…
    xx

  61. I’ve never heard of Kronkron before this, but their shoes are beautiful, and sort of like a classier Irregular Choice. I love that every time I read this blog I discover something new!

  62. I love everything in this post! All those lovely colours just made my day!

  63. dis is a truly delicious post with so many gorgeous items introduced, juz luv it.
M always a big fan of socks/tighs. I got the socks on the right on the last pic too šŸ™‚

  64. Ugh I want a pair of those shoes so much I’m almost disgusted by myself. And as I may be in Iceland later this year…I need green shooz. And those dresses are lovely too.
How comfy are they to walk around/stand in? How is the fit?
Just curious since whenever I buy something that fits and feels comfy in a shop they destroy my feet or fall off when worn in The Outside World D:

  65. I think this store would be like my fashion heaven! All the colours and prints altogether! I especially love the socks and tights selection which simply just blew me away with brands like Missoni and Tsumori Chisato under the same roof. Also, please do tell us the story of that cherry head-dress though. šŸ™‚
P.S. What a splendid couple behind all of this btw! šŸ™‚

  66. after seeing those shoes and stockings i have nothing intelligent to say. words fail me!

  67. Tsumori have some gradiation tight few years ago, more like a space dyed pattern and I like that more..
I like kron kron shoes but they gave me hard times to pick. All combos are so sweet!
All you have written lately had being put in stores in Hong Kong. Do you know you are such big reference to many fashionista in my city?
    Thanks Susie!

  68. About hosiery, a Japanese label “muchacha” have some cute and funny design. Check it out please.
Ooops, I typed wrong email address in previous post šŸ™‚

  69. Swoon! Now they do dreamy clothing too…be still my beating heart!

  70. Kron Kron!!! I met them at Tranoi in Paris and they were so kind! I already knew about their shoes, but when I saw the hosiery pieces in their stand I immediately thought about you. Well, about me too… so I hope I’m still in time for the giveaway!!
