>> I seem to be doing a fine job in being totally oblivious to what is going on in London. I perceive it all as a senseless mess and I'm sort of relieved that I'm not there to witness the mass of smoke, fears and tears that are ravaging my home city. For now, all I can say is for those of you who can help, please support Riot Cleanup in any way you can. I'll be home soon to see how I can somehow contribute – hopefully this will all cease and be resolved.
From LA, I've now hopped over to Stockholm for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. I feel odd to be all chipper and harp on about pretty dresses for the next few days. I'll plough on for now. People have been tweeting quite lovely sentiments about the strength of London's spirit – 'Let's make the city beautiful again' is what people have been saying, devoid of any hippy-la-la vibes. It's an attitude that will hopefully ring strong and true. I present to you a tenuous link and a mild distraction with the help of these lingering flowers from Stella McCartney's Spring 2011 collection into these limited print collection fragrance bottles, currentlya available in Boots and Stella McCartney stores. Disneyrollergirl blogged about how lovely the packaging is and indeed, I'm tempted to buy all three, line them up and just retain them as a tryptich installation, carefully arranged next to some fresh flowers perhaps just to add a touch of contrivance.
There's definitely impetus for those botanical English floral prints from that impactful Stella resort collection to linger on as they don't seem to want to go disappear just yet, judging from the 2012 round of resort shows. Bon magazine have designed up a booklet for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Stockholm placing the designers that are showing and their logos over similar florals that is an instant cheery note to begin the week on as well as an visually stimulating intro to what will take place here.
I’m all for people acting to cleaning up London post-riot (if indeed, it is actually over and we’re not due for another night of fires and fear) but saying “Let’s make London beautiful” sort of misses the point that the places affected were predominantly socially deprived, already rundown areas. The “beautiful” areas are still that, as whilst we can call the riots senseless in some ways, there is definitely an element of class warfare fueling them. The tragedy is that those who are socially deprived, and apparently living in poverty, have lashed out at their own communities and ruined the businesses and homes of those around them.
Kirsty: of course we need to get to the root of why this is happening but for now, there doesn’t seem to be any semblance of reason or order…
Was this actually bubbling under in those areas? Can we verify indeed that this all the actions of the ‘poor’ and ‘deprived’ – I heard kids saying ‘We want our taxes back’ – people who aren’t even paying taxes yet! There doesn’t seem to be a sensical ideology or argument strong enough to lunge out like this…
And the areas affected are indeed beautiful if ppl are chipping in and helping out to help those affected to overcome what has happened. The people involved in the riots represent a small proportion in these areas so I personally still believe there is goodness/beauty to be found…
I didn’t want to delve into it to much. This blog isn’t the right forum. Guardian’s CIF seems to be a better place for this…
Hi Susie! It’s unbelievable what we’re watching on TV about the riots in London!
Keep safe girlfriend! Hope it’ll pass soon enough!
Oh the Bon Mag booklet is too lovely! I would say to Kirsty that apparently there was a lot of regeneration going on in Tottenham before the riots but now who will want to invest there? And prettying up the streets is good for morale and shows that actually somebody does care about these communities. Plus the huge numbers of people doing the clean-up are quite possibly keeping gangs away from returning to those particular areas. If The Ledbury restaurant can use rolling pins to protect its diners then let the cleaner-uppers use their brooms!
And that’s is all I’m going to say. Back to the fashion!
Oh! By the way (forgot to comment on the actual post), those floral prints, with a retro/vintage feeling are simply beautiful!
Sorry about everything happening in London. These floral prints are cheery enough to make you smile a little bit though!

Hey Susie,
I’m a huge follower of your blog and you have been a tremendous inspiration to me. I’ve started, or should I say restarted fashion blogging just recently. I hope you could stop by my blog and maybe leave a comment or two about it.
I’ve seen and heard of the riot in London and it made me even more sad knowing that my family studying there reside in an area that was attacked. Even worse, one Malaysian student were terribly attacked and robbed by a mob in the wake of the riot. I hope the riot will cease soon~
Love those dresses! the floral print is so fun and perfect for Summer 🙂
