One Night Only

>> The signs of a good night out inevitably reverberate on to the blog as posting of last night's Versace x H&M festivities in New York, will be sluggishly slow seeing as I ambitiously thought i was going to survive on four hours sleep and get up at 6am.  Nope‚Ķ

For now though, let the wave of tropical palm tree print come all over you as there's still a good amount of time before November 17th to get excited about the debut of Versace's collaboration with H&M.  Richly saturated imagery, golden hamster wheels and blippy music aside, what it boils down to are the clothes.  What are they ACTUALLY like?  I know the show images from last night's extravaganza will be flooding in but I'll add my little firsthand wearing experience here as I was lucky enough to wear the palm and alligator printed skirt which I matched up with a vintage Versace Jeans piece from the incredible House of Liza.

I was entirely focused on the print of the skirt which I thought would pick out the palm tree elements of the sunburst LOUD-AS-YOU-MIGHT jacket.  Then the skirt arrived and I found they had teensy tiny metal corners that looked like photo corners framing each pleat of the skirt, that both adorned and weighted the skirt down.  I know it's a titchy tiny detail but things like that make me beam.  Especially as they also married up the metal wingtips on the pocket flaps of the vintage jacket, showing a genuine archive referencing that makes this collection so joyful.

On a "Hey LADEEEEEZ!" note (I've noticed reviews on nail salon bars on Yelp contain a lot of addressing to the collective group of 'LADEEEEEZ!' so I thought I'd try it on for size‚Ķ), I went the whole nine yards, put on some slap, got my nails DID at a janky nail salon and got my hair DID at a totally NOT janky hair salon thanks to Bumble & Bumble in Meatpacking and surprised a lot of people with my slapped-up/hair-done self.  The question of "What would Donatella do?" quite rightly infiltrated my mind for one night only.

The rest of the night's shenanigans will unveil themselves in due course.  After all there are still seven more days to get pepped up for the REAL PEOPLE's launch of this stuff‚Ķ.

  1. I am so envious that you had the opportunity to attend the event! It’s only a few more days away and I’ve already picked out what I want from the collection…now will I get it on the launch day against the hundreds of fashion lovers lining up outside the doors of H&M at Michigan Avenue…that is another story to be told 🙂 Beautiful photos Susie!

  2. I am surprised at how much I like it! Maybe I’ll talk about it in a little while soon. You look incredible as always!

  3. To be honest, I had/have my doubts about this particular collabo. Not that I have ever worn or handled any Versace clothing myself, so maybe I haven’t got any place to say, but I kind of get the impression that it is all about heaviness and opulence and general luxuriance, which doesn’t seem like it could translate very well to an “affordable” collection.
But I suppose that is a point that all of these kind of collaborations have to get past. And those little metal pieces are a promising detail.

  4. The metal corners are a lovely touch – am also enjoying the crocodile printed backdrop that you’re standing in front of!

  5. I’ve already accepted the fact that I wont be able to get my hands on anything from the collection even though I really want the neck pieces.

  6. Love the skirt, how do the sizes run? Will be sending my Mum to buy it on the day! At first I was indifferent but now this collection has grown on me, I’m really becoming drawn to more vivid prints at the moment.

  7. OK you have officially confirmed my Versace Mania Month. Somehow I managed to convince myself I wasn’t going to get anything from this collection…now I’m trying to decide whether I should to the store at 6am or 7!

  9. A nice colorful dress for this month, for the fall some browns and reds. I like the style and color bags and shoes.

  12. Agagagahahh! I just died at the sight of the cutesy, unexpected pleat “weights”!
P.S. You look smashin’ all done up!

  13. Like the combination a lot, not sure if I would wear it nearly as good as you. You really suit in everything 😀

  14. I saw pics of you and bryan boy floating around on twitter and fell ing love with your outfit immediately! I adore the pleated skirt, it was one of the first items which caught my eye when I saw the collection online a few weeks ago and seeing it teamed with the fabulous jacket of yours makes me want it even more!! LOVE

  15. The palm printed pieces are my favourites from the collection, regarding the tiny metal corners- I really appreciate them as well. And I guess you´ve seen the high street doing so as well, small metal corners on shirt nibs can now be seen at Zara, Weekday and H&M (if I´m not completely in the wrong).

  16. You look amazing! Not that you don’t always look amazing… I wasn’t really drawn to any of the V/H&M stuff from the lookbook but the skirt looks great on you. The clips on the skirt are a really nice touch that I totally hadn’t noticed. Now I want to see it all up close!

  17. This rainbow-colored two piece clothing was hailed from the 80’s. The beauty of this piece of clothing is its striking ensemble. This is perfect for summer outings.
