>> In addition to purging my stomach, I seem to be purging my eyes for the day with the discovery of Building Block, a side project bag label by Kimberly, who I believe is based in Tokyo and designs for Honda's Advanced Studio. Pour Porter has done a visually indepth interview with Kimberly here and it's also worth checking out her lovely wabi-sabi-filled blog of Japanese tidbits that immediately make me want to de-clutter my living space.
However, it is Kimberly's Building Block label which I'm immediately drawn to. A maximalist and cluttered up being such as myself might not be the primary target consumer when it comes to these highly distilled bag designers made with precision, TLC and an appreciation for tactability. Then again, it wasn't so long ago that I was a complete bag-a-phobe, afraid of logos and shiny hardware. Whilst that has changed, my appreciation for bags that have their feet firmly planted to the ground and that you can carry your real life in, will never waver. There's a generous feeling in the amount of supple leather used, the size of the tassels and the wooden blocks and spheres that act as toggles on the thick rubber cords. Don't read anything naughty into this, but I can already imagine fidgeting around with one of the tassels whilst on a bus, just because it looks so well-crafted. I especially love the pastel hues that Kimberly experimented with in her earlier designs.
The label isn't fully fledged yet as I don't think there are any stockists. Building Block is only taking wholesale orders at the moment so I'm hoping there are store buyers about with an eye for bags that look like they can handle heft and substance.
Love these, fantastic and I’m checking out her blog right now…

Yeah, I could live with that… Dotted arm clutch looks awesome. And all of them really. I just want a beautiful, simple but quirky leather bag. They’re so hard to find these days, everything’s so bling.
