>> Ah IRONY. Annoying and disingenuous. Or clever and 'hilarious' (notice when people say things are hilarious and actually never crack a smile). Depends on who you're speaking to I guess. Jalouse has lathered it on in bucket loads in this little short by Matthew Frost and are surely laughing at themselves. However, their insistence that "super hot chicks" like Ashley Smith, who get cruised by hipster bearded guys in bookstores, change outfits several times a day and are liked by both girls and boys for her HUGE personality are continued to be featured in Jalouse regularly rather deflates the point of the film. Or perhaps there is not point. You know, it's very 60s Godard… like… yeah… whatever…
I doubt this thing will get "tons of clicks with the kids". I'm not quite sure why I'm contributing to its viral potential but hey, it's the beginning of January and it's a bit quiet round here.
**EDIT** This was originally posted yesterday on 3rd January but the video was pulled from Vimeo to time with today's official launch of the viral. Err… not the best way of getting mad buzz with the kids…
Yeah…about that…

I thought it was funny! The audio at least, which is probably a verbatim transcript from every meeting they have every day – so at least they have a tiny bit of self-awareness to laugh at themselves?! One hopes…
super funny! i’m really into it actually haha! (no irony here)
love it so pretty

That is the most irritating minute and a half I’ve spent in approximately two years. How can you call a woman strong and independent while calling her a chick about five times in a minute and a half? And are we supposed to ignore the fact that her neighbour can’t actually be exactly like this “hot, sexy chick” because she’s not a model. Hipster haircut also ridiculous … this made me a bit angry, I’ll be honest.
it’s all ACHINGLY tongue in cheek of course… still, there is no getting away from the irritating factor of it. We’re supposed to congratulate Jalouse for being able to laugh at themselves I guess but I doubt that will stop the likelihood of ‘chicks’ like Ashley getting lauded in the mag…
Nice video, not very original except the comments done during the video…

I think it’s quite funny to be honest. But I don’t this the video going to help the magazine in any way. I feel like this video is mocking the people who would want to buy this magazine – saying they are exactly like Ashley’s neighbour – yearning to be a “hot, sexy chick” who has sex with hipster dudes on tables. Not exactly the best aspirations to have in life.

What’s amazing about this video is the reflexive voice-over by the gentleman because it lends insight into the male-hipster mind (the elusive male-hipster mind).
I think I’d rather he remain elusive!
Exactly… which is why I questioned what IS the point of this film? The sad fact is that most people would probably skip over the irony/sardonic tones and end up aspiring to be exactly what this girl is…
Is Jalouse serious? It’s a bit like a downgrade of Vice just not as good. It was quite funny i just think the model with a gap in her teeth is just so obvious. It’s like commercializing hipsters.
oh man, the kids are going to be SO into this!
Obviously we’ve just had a valuable insight into the brilliant inner workings of Jalouse.
DAMN! Now I’M jealous. Loved Ashley Smith on this one. The whole concept is so simple, but so true. Congrats!

…plus sex on a table is really usually not very good…
I mean it’s definitely a funny video, just kind of annoying. This magazine basically paid this dude to make fun of the chicks who read it, in order to… get more chicks to read it? I don’t know, it’s sort of like if a politician made a campaign ad explaining how funny the ways he is manipulating you are in order to get more votes. Like, what, are we supposed to just thank them for being honest, say “Aren’t girls who like clothes funny!” and tell them to keep up the good work?
If this was an ad for some other type of magazine, like, a Jalouse alternative or something, I would understand it. But as it is, it seems kind of insulting.
LOVELY.

comme doesn’t take “s”, it’s a preposition (sorry I’m passionate about the French language)
Godard??? ah-ah, let’s be serious this is a very boring “viral” video for people who love H&M. Godard was very new this is very old. An idea to be successful has to be innovative, and a girl young and pretty it’s not even vintage.
Godard…lol! Shes smart because she reads books, and shes cool because “cool” men notice her…BLARRGH!
I really have no answer! Perhaps they think that the people who do understand the irony will think its funny and respect them for being able to make fun of themselves. While the unfortunate people who don’t actually understand that they are being looked down upon will continue buying the magazine in the hopes of one day being cool enough to have sex with a hipster dude.
I didn’t question the “point” of the clip when I saw it (oops), but did enjoy it if only for the good laugh. But I’m VERY glad you did question its integrity and I totally agree that it loses significance and it actually quite odd if/when they continue to laud the very ideal they poking fun at. Either way, I was still amused but wish it did mark a shift in content.
