When the Fashion156 eBay Paint Issue was going on, I had this jacket by Steve J & Yoni P on my eBay watch for such a long time until I doh doh doh missed it in true schoolboy error style but in a pleasant surprise, I found out I had lost to Wendy B who of course wears it with great panache as she does with most things. Still, the jacket was a prototype that was to be developed into one that had…. grey jersey sleeves!
Not just that they’re grey jersey but that they’re SNUG ones that even if you’re bare armed underneath . Oh dear… I fear I’m missing the true point of the jacket really by banging on about grey jersey snug sleeves. Yes, those are might puffy sleeves. Not just one puff but three perfectly rounded ones that run up the upper arms and when you poke them, they emit a soft pillowy sound, the kind that posh hotel pillows make. The onamatapaiec fun doesn’t end there as the front also does up with clips that make satisfying clinking sounds when they are snapped into place.
Actually, again, I’m being incoherent and getting easily distracted because the REAL point of this Steve J & Yoni P jacket is that it is the exact kind of shaped and sculpted armour that I’ve been hankering after to really elevate my winter. If the nights are going to be dark and textures/prints need to be covered up, then I’d rather have a distinct shape on me moving not-so-stealthily about the night.
Today I went for all black just to let the jacket do all the talking…
But I will of course clash shape with shape… my 1p eBay puffball dress which I will love and keep forever…
Or collide print/colour with shape with the help of Mary Katrantzou…
I was gutted to miss their S/S 09 show which was at the Korean embassy in London. I might have to take back my previous comment about cuddly toys. I’d like to take home some of their woodland creatures but only if I can emulate that same combination of cuddly toy and uniquely constructed dresses that looks altogether unexpected. However, the whole collection is an amalgamation of so many things that you just can’t box it into categories of mould it into how you want to see it. I see geek glasses – do I detect a Lula-girly vibe? Nope… the construction of the dresses, especially the warped metallic pleats shelve that idea. There’s a hooped skirt… is Victoriana coming back? Nope, I can only see it as a reference to Beatrix Potter’s era except Steve J and Yoni P have taken Potter’s vision and mangled the animals, the flora and fauna into something that is their own. Strip away all the elements that might throw you off course though and the clothes still stand on their own… surprisingly sharp tailoring and nifty design details aplenty.

I really love those outfits you’ve created – oddly elegant despite the armourlike element of the jacket.
where did you get that off white 2 layered bubble skirt. it is divine!
Congratulations on the perfect jacket! Looks fabulous on you 🙂
I agree – the jacket’s great, but that skirt elevates it to amazing.
Ah apologies…it’s not a skirt…it’s a vintage dress that I won for 1p on eBay….
I also love the headwear and neck pieces!
The dress (and puffy sleeves) in your last oufit are amazing 🙂
Fab jacket and my how I snvy the 1p dress – don’t ya wear to LCF or else you’ll find yourself in toilets doing a swap under duress (of course not!)x
I love love love that jacket! I would never expect it to look so amazing if I had seen it “on the hanger” so to speak.
I remember seeing that jacket on Wendy’s blog and admiring it. You two both look great. 🙂
That jacket is amazing – you and Wendy look amazing in them. Wow.
I really like it with the puffball dress.
the second picture is amaaazing! Love the black boots
Oh my God! It looks awesome with gray sleeves. I almost wish I had that version instead/also. That jacket was really my favorite purchase all this year.
Love the sleeves, and that is a to die for collection!!!
I recently discovered your blog a month or so ago and it’s quickly becoming my favorite! The way you pair colors/textures/patterns is very inspiring. I dabble in odd combinations but don’t have the imagination to go as far as you do, while still managing to make it look so good I’m like, “Damn I wish I had that.” Great work!!
the photo with the 1p dress is damn gorgeous! and it’s so funny how wendyb was bidding too, the world gets smaller!
it must be wendy day in the bloggosphere!
you know, i can just imagine the two of you in a bidding frenzy over that jacket (i hear she uses special software)
😉
both of you look just lovely, i like both the colored one and the gray one. excellent.
Sorry Wendy B, but grey jersey is SO MUCH BETTER! It’s just perfect! I’m jealous now!
Thanks for stopping by my blog & for your comment 🙂
This jacket is incredibly amazing! The puffball skirt outfit is my favourite, just stunning!
That jacket is HEAVEN.
Puff with puff – perfection!
really cool with the all black & the puffy skirt too
OMG, PLEASE tell me where you got that puffball dress!!!
First of all, that jacket is unreal. I have a pillowy flower necklace, and whenever I wear it I just keep poking at it and squishing it (people come up to me and do that too). Second of all, that runway show looks so fun and playful, it’s a shame you missed it. I love love love the wired white dress.
I like both versions of the jacket. Different tastes for different girls.
How cool that it’s available in grey jersey for you, Susie! I know how you love it so!
You did a great job mixing it up with your jacket.

Wow – those bubble sleaves look fab!
Gah!! You have the most amazing jackets!!! Yes that deserves a lot of exclamation points!! I love all these outfits!!! If you don’t mind me asking, how much was the jacket and where did you get it?
that jacket is so cozy looking!
I just saw a post on another blog about some portuguese designers called aforestdesign and thought the grey marl hood/bonnet pictured would go so well with your first outfit http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/8/view/4586/combo-by-aforest-design.html
I completely ADORE that jacket, ahhh! And that 1p puffball dress makes me completely jealous..
Very adorable on you!
Wow, I love the white skirt!! 🙂
I love the grey and black monochrome look with the jacket and tights!
Where is this brand stocked in the UK?
Wow, I am jealous. I totally dig the second look. Though the other two work for me too. You are such a rockstar!
Susie, that’s unreal. I remember when wendy bought that jacket. I like your grey number. That jacket looks actually better with your puffball dress.
Another unreal thing.. are they (or the brand) from Korea? The site is down and the warning message(they exceeded the traffic quota or something) is in Korean. LOL. Your blog must have caused it.
Oh dear…. I can’t believe that happened Songy!
Yes they are Korean and they are wonderful….!
wow! what an amazing jacket!
was reading an old copy of Borne magazine and liked ure wee column, u still doing that? xx
Danielle: They are stocked at Mysugarland in London…but do email them if you are after something…. press@stevejandyonip.com
Hi Susie!
i emailed Steve j & yoni’s salespeople, but they say that the one you have was a one-off sample jacket and that there are none left – did you get yours at My Sugarland and do you know if they had any more?
Thanks – your blog is great!
Alas… I got it from Steve & Yoni directly….!
ah well, I’ll have to pop in anyway and see if they have anything else interesting- maybe I misunderstood the email and they’ll have some anyway…(here’s hoping!)
Love the way this jacket shouts fun and volume, but you’ve made it look so elegant and flattering. You’ve got a great talent with matching items you wouldn’t normally match, and then make them look fantastic!
Great post, i love the depth you put into them 🙂
Nicky xx
i like second picture !!! 🙂

Susie…I just have to dote here for a moment…You are one off the most influencial and artisticly, outrageous and humorous figures in this crazzy poosh world of fashion.

As great as it looks on you, I can’t help but be reminded of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdX_OBUeHb4 lol!
I ADORE this jacket and it’s beautifull proportions in the sleeves. You seem to carry it off in so many chic ways, i’m ever so impressed! Much love from australia, Kara xo.
ps. I am addicted to your blog, thanks for keeping such an interesting collection of images and smart and witty words to compliment them; it’s the perfect balance for fashion heaven. Please check out my blog if you ever get time 🙂 http://www.karacraig.blogspot.com
Not very eloquent but, I think this jacket is really cool. I also think all three combinations look wicked. You look especially fantastic in these images.
gosh you’re so good at mixing colours and textures together… as well as going for unique stuff that people would normally think twice about. and you do so with such panache.
i like the last photo of the 3 models in ballerina point shoes =) very cute
An excellent, futuristic piece. The sleeves are genius.
That last photograph is amazing! And I absolutely love the puff-sleeve jacket. Seems totally practical too.
Your jacket is fabulous! It goes with everything you’ve shown it with, in my mind that’s the sign of a really good item of clothing, I’m sure it’ll be a wardrobe staple for a long time.
I’m not familiar with Steve&Yoni, they’ve got some interesting stuff going on I’ll have to check them out!
I swear I’ve seen the toys in Beyond the valley.. Very cute!
Tragic to lose the auction but how crazy to lose it to Wendy B! Love the grey version, especially with the poof dress.
i was just doing some knit research, looking for knits and came across the steve j and yoni j collection with the knitted animals, there is no mention, so incase you don’t know they’re by a designer called Donna Wilson. Really cool plush toys!
