The Good Kind of Baggage

The Good Kind of Baggage

>> I've had a bit of an arduous day getting back from Stockholm and I still have a TON of things to post about but this post about this particular LCF graduate has been due since the MA show last week when her out-of-control luggage caught my eye.  Nay, "caught" is an incorrect word.  They very elegantly swayed and glided into my path of vision.  I wanted to wait until the other half did a very indepth interview with LCF MA Fashion Artefact grad Sarah Williams who has fused her love of impeccable craftsmanship with pushing the boundaries of conventional luggage.  I don't think I've ever seen such a literal collision between the new-gen and respect for old techniques.  I'll leave her to explain her thought processes and intentions but suffice to say, she's keen on setting up her own design label which means I'm going to start saving up the pennies for the ultimate vanity case and portable trunk complete with overly-specifically shaped pockets for storing all of my odd-shaped accessories.

The cases and the work of other LCF MA Fashion Artefacts and Footwear grads are on exhibition until tomorrow at the Mall Galleries if you want to double check that these shapes are….and I can't quite believe I'm ending a post on this… fo' real!

Gorgeous. I’m so glad you posted this today – I can work a visit to the show into my schedule, I’ll be not far from there! Thank you, Susie Bubble!
I mis-read it at first and thought you saw someone AT THE AIRPORT with the luggage, gliding into your vision. I thought they had wheels.
We all do know they’re totally impractical in today’s world. I remember the first time I came from NY with my then BF (now husband) to meet his family for Christmas, at the big house with the name & the driveway in the English countryside. I brought my late grandfather’s cherished (by me) alligator suitcase. In steerage. This suitcase had lived a long and good life and was (as my grandfather jokingly had told me) strewn around the extended family: everyone took a piece while he was alive.
Mine arrived at Heathrow with a huge gash on it. And today it is a little side table, and it does not travel.
But that’s not the point, is it? These are gorgeous, innovative designs. Fashion doesn’t have to be practical. I’ll do anything to help support her. And I’d LOVE to carry that powder blue one thru security!

this is wonderful! like you say she makes the luggage look ultra modern but with irreprochable traditional craftsmanship = Postmodernist luggage!
… and yes, I would definitely love to buy a couple to use as furniture to stock my accessories … I really can’t get enough of your posts, so inspiring, thank you! xx

somehow these luggage remind me of musical instrument casings – think trombone / trumpet casings which are carved according their respective shapes. πŸ™‚

I want to play Tetris with them!
As much as I’d love a cool vintage case with drawers, they just won’t do in an airport. Although I did see a blogger once using cool train cases and steamer trunks as shoe and accessory storage.
