Nude Leather Riddle

>> "Golden rays seal the gift as Zephyr crowns your silken heart" is another one of Antwerp-based accessories designer Niels Peeraer's collection titles, which prompts a little confusion but in the end, it matters not because the actual goods are still enduringly appealing.  It is down to Peeraer's use of nude bleached out leather – a material that speaks of purity and even if you tried to make a dinosaur out of it wearing a tutu, it would still somehow look like an object that could last the test of time.  Peeraer hasn't gone down such roads of whimsy but he has turned to his adored bow structure to decorate satchel-esque bags and gift boxes, which go hand in hand with S/S 13's theme of obviously outward decoration (see Christopher Kane, Prada, Meadham Kirchhoff).  The bows also grace neat little bracelets that need to be worn as a pair it seems, and they excessively loop around on intricate headbands and necklaces.  It's like a child has become fixated with ribbons and ends up wrapping him or herself up in a whirlwind of bows and knots.  Except Peeraer's work is kept disciplined with his deovtion to this hardy leather.  RA in Antwerp and Joyce in Hong Kong are currently the only stockists but I'd love if he could work on a spot of e-commerce to bring a larger audience into his nude leather world.  Perhaps he could decipher his riddle-esque titles too.

    your posts are incredible always!

  2. That first photo made me stop and think “my, what large hands this model has…” and lo and behold: large hands for a reason!
The work is amazingly intricate and is such an homage to detail. I am rather flabberghasted. It’s as if each item is a gift unto itself. Rather romantic with the color and the design. I’m almost scared to see how much it would set me back, it is so beautiful.

  3. I recognized it right away! as a belgian i must say that i do not know a lot about his work, but i do recognize it! he once designed a bag for Delvaux! Delvaux was stuck and they needed a rejuvenating cure, Niels was the right choice. Delvaux is somehow back on track because they are focussing on their classics like the brillant. anyway, Ra is like the store for you I guess! love this eclectic whimsical quirky store, huge huge fan!

  4. Why lie…I love that handbag. The knots are beautiful and unique. I would rather have a finger ring with that knot rather than a necklace.

  5. Is this a ladies bag ? I really like it but I could not stop looking at the male model and it was very distracting, not because I thought he was good looking ( although he is ) but because he was posing like a girl and I kept giggling I really love the bag though

  6. All leather starts off as this shade before it’s dyed so it’s not really bleached out in any way. It’s ideal for tooling so it’s usually sold as ’embossing leather’. It darkens really nicely and quickly in the sun and with use. The bags are great. The looks are so gothic lolita.
