>> "Golden rays seal the gift as Zephyr crowns your silken heart" is another one of Antwerp-based accessories designer Niels Peeraer's collection titles, which prompts a little confusion but in the end, it matters not because the actual goods are still enduringly appealing. It is down to Peeraer's use of nude bleached out leather – a material that speaks of purity and even if you tried to make a dinosaur out of it wearing a tutu, it would still somehow look like an object that could last the test of time. Peeraer hasn't gone down such roads of whimsy but he has turned to his adored bow structure to decorate satchel-esque bags and gift boxes, which go hand in hand with S/S 13's theme of obviously outward decoration (see Christopher Kane, Prada, Meadham Kirchhoff). The bows also grace neat little bracelets that need to be worn as a pair it seems, and they excessively loop around on intricate headbands and necklaces. It's like a child has become fixated with ribbons and ends up wrapping him or herself up in a whirlwind of bows and knots. Except Peeraer's work is kept disciplined with his deovtion to this hardy leather. RA in Antwerp and Joyce in Hong Kong are currently the only stockists but I'd love if he could work on a spot of e-commerce to bring a larger audience into his nude leather world. Perhaps he could decipher his riddle-esque titles too.
