>> Don't be alarmed if over the next few months, the sidebar to the right hand side gets a bit busier.  I'm just a fiddler who can't leave things alone and the bare and spare look of the sidebar was making me all fidgety.  You'll already see some reminders of past posts moving about in a nifty JScript carousel.  I heart JScript.  That will become evident soon enough.  You'll be crying out for a calming still and static space soon enough and I probably won't relent.

First off, here's a regular thing I'll be doing which is yer' basic video flick through of a magazine every month.  I'll try and mix it up so that it's not just the obvious titles but to start us off, I've flicked through the ever-brilliant Elle Collections, which just came out last week.  Once again, they've done a stellar job of rounding up the season in a visually stimulating way.  There's a bit of a font change in this issue which suits the delicacy of the season but all in all, it's got all the little Elle Collections tidbits that we've come to grow fond of.  I won't be doing a post on ever single monthly Mag Flick but you'll just see it changing in the sidebar and they'll all be stored on this page here.  Enjoy and beware of a lot more movement going on to your right hand side.

P.S. The soundtrack is Dream Analysis by Jesse Ruins.

I don’t know of any other style blogger in this world that provides such inspiration as you dear Susie. Thanks so much for your blog. I love it to bits. I loved every second of the vid and I didn’t even notice all the bits moving to the right! x

  3. Love this! One of the most annoying things about living in Zurich is that English speaking magazines cost about 20 quid and I just cannot spend that much! I’d rather hop on a flight to London and pick them all up there. Can’t wait to get a closer look at this next month when I’m back.
The brilliant thing about this video is it only makes me want to buy the magazine even more. xx

  4. Thank you so much for this! I will probably be re-watching this several more times before running out and buying the magazine. 🙂

To be honest, I don’t really get the point of the video… It kinda just looks like an advert! I feel like if I can go look at the magazine in a newsagent/bookstore why do I need you to do it for me? But I would LOVE it if you added your views and comments to magazines, you know, talk about why something is interesting or overrated or whatever… People look at this blog because they’re interested in YOUR opinions…

The point is that many people reading the blog CAN’T go into a newsagent/book store to pick up the magazine…
The video flick through is just to give people an idea of what I rate as a publication on a monthly basis. I think the video speaks for itself as to why it’s good. There will only ever be a flick through IF I genuinely love it as per most things that get featured on the blog.
I talk an AWFUL lot on the blog and the reason why I’ll be rejigging the sidebar with other bits of content is so that I can concentrate on longer posts for the main part of the blog and resign smaller bits of content to the sidebar to diversify the blog a bit more and not have so much dead space to the side as well.
I’ve never really made magazine reviews a part of the blog but this way, I can incorporate some element of that without being unnecessarily wordy/long winded about it, a trap that I so often fall into unfortunately!

I love it. I’ll try to find it in Paris. Thank you for this video.

  9. Elle Collections is like a fashion yearbook now 🙂 so excited to see it each season!

I really appreciate the mag flick throughs as I am totally broke and it means I can get a feel for the new season without having to sit through dozens and dozens of shows on style.com worrying about the work I SHOULD actually be doing. I can’t justify spending seven quid on a mag at the moment, so I felt so lucky when I saw you’d done a flick through of this. Thank you from Cambridge! XX

    Thanks for that!!

Love the edition even if I don’t really get the sense of showing those tendances that we have been fed up with just after each show …

Interesting comment. Are we REALLY fed up with the trends already after the shows when these collections are only just hitting stores now? That says a lot about the pace of fashion if we are already TIRED of shows/collections months after they’re shown. It also says a lot about the way shows are covered by media. I’m personally a fan of talking about collections when they are relevant – i.e. when we can ACTUALLY buy it or ACTUALLY feel like appropriating these trends. Still, food for thought…

  14. Elle Collections is TOTES (joking susie..) my new fav mag! Its really great how beautiful it looks and how they use all the runway photography in a really new, creative way. Plus insightful, well written pieces on certain designers by great fash journos. A complete collectors item. One gripe (only one) I hate the question: ‘What can you not live without?’… cause there are only 3 answers: food water and shelter, NOT ‘omgeeee my blackberry and my chihuahua’ but otherwise its THE BEST read.

I love how you can make such a simple video into something interesting. Haha, I have a thing about making my sidebar look pretty too ~ I just can’t help it since I’m a perfectionist/art student/graphic designer ^.^

Fair enough =) maybe I’m just spending too much money on magazines haha

I would have thought Elle would hate you for showing everybody the entire contents of the Collections supplement, but actually I just want to go out and buy a copy right this second!! LOVE how you zoom in on the Meadham Kirchhoff pages, be sure to keep Style Bubble updated with the sample sale date because I NEED TO BE THERE!!

Such a simple idea to flip through a magazine but you somehow managed to elevate the concept. Love this new addition to your blog. Also, running out to get a copy of that mag.
