I Want Candy

Pub quiz question… what's Furla all about?  Alright Furla, Furla…  what does this label conjure up for me?  Well to be honest, not a lot other than bags that are somewhere between high end designer and mid-priced range and perhaps more apt as gifts for my mum (give her anything Made in Italy that's not excessively priced and she's a happy bunny).

A bit of Google self-informing and I find their latest S/S 11 advertising campaign featuring Italian artist Ottonella Mocellin and photographed by Francesco Carrozzini, in a cinematic way that reminds me of Alex Prager's "Week-End" series.  Furla's already throwing a curveball on me. Then they waved candy in my face.  Their range of 'Candy' bags from their S/S 11 range basically is a boiled sweet transformed into bag form.  Or wine gum, gummy bear, pear drops, jelly babies – whichever luminously coloured sweetie works for you.

This was the way that I got lured in by the Candy Man aka Furla and so the bags in pink and orange have landed here, permeating the room with a heady beach ball-esque scent that reminds me of the sort of disposable toys that you'd get at Great Yarmouth.  That's a good thing by the way considering how many rubber dingies I loved lying in, to inhale both sea air and plastic.

They also come with miniature Candy bags that are USB sticks as well as doubling up as Barbie-appropriate sized bags should you still be err… the sort to play with Barbie dolls…

Transclucent rubber in shades of pink and orange (as well as yellow, blue, green and black) have tricked me into thinking that summer is 'just around the corner'.  Days where pool water could splash them and sun could light them up, illuminating the  vague outlines of its contents.  Funny how I'm thinking up these cliches associated with waterproof rubber bags when Furla themselves have gone for a rather more dramatic and slightly sinister image in their ad campaign as the candy bag is lit up like a fire fly.  It probably demonstrates how much I'm yearning for sun drenched days when you can give 'serious' leather bags a rest and swing some of this bag jelly on your arms.  I'll spare the beach bare-all outfits though and stick to spring-y solutions just to convince myself that sun is on its way…

The draw of sun, water and plastic fumes aside, there is of course a slightly transparent quality to the Candy bag.  Not entirely see-through given its boiled sweet quality, but your bits and bobs are definitely visible.  In support of the ol' "What's in your bag?" post that most fashion bloggers tend to experience at least once in their blogging lifetime, I've bared all here, so you guys can one up on me and outdo my paltry bag contents portrayal.  Mine are pretty boring – essential and excessive due to the roominess of the bag.  I've seen some beautifully presented bag contents, arranged and displayed in a weirdly spell-binding way so I invite you all to do what the inner fashion blogger spirit in all of you is telling you to do, by emailing your photos of artfully arranged bag contents to stylebubble@gmail.com

Everyone who participates who's in and around London, is invited to a shindig at the Furla store in London (in-store 20% discount, booze and DJs I gather…) in April.  At the event, five winners overall will be announced and each will receive the Candy bags of their colour choice.  We can then all get together and get ourselves down to the lido just to have them all bobbing about in the water for jokes… ah, another waterproof/rubber bag cliche.  I'm just full of them.

I have no idea what makes the 'best' "What's in Your Bag?" picture but anything that makes me chuckle is a start I guess.  Choosing five of them may be completely arbitrary but then again we're talking about rubber bags here, not the Pulitzer.  Empty your bag and see what unfolds…

Bag of M&S cashew nuts (I'm prone to feeling cranky without regular eats), Canon S95, Oyster card in Delvaux card holder, eye drops, tissues, Penhaligons Artemis solid perfume compact (for inhaling on the smelly tube), Chanel mascara, No. 7 concealer and powder, Bourjois eyeliner, YSL Touche Eclat (yes, I'm THAT predictable, Topshop nail polish, blush and nude lippie (I'm finding their products fairly reliable…) cheap paperback (this changes on a weekly basis because I crunch through books fast on bus rides), Blackberry, Louis Vuitton passport holder (that I use as a wallet…), Royal Mail cards (I always have stuff to pick up at the delivery office), Carmex, USB stick (I'm using the Sibling one at the moment that also comes with a handy beer mat… ), keys, Smythson diary (thanks Lane Crawford for the Crimbo gift), Sharpie pen

*This post was sponsored by Furla… not a line I normally pull, but I swear it's only because the Candy bags look like boiled sweets…

  1. I’m so on love with the first outfit! You’re wearing my absolutely favourite colour combination. I’m also basically dying to own one of those bags but for 200 euros that if a dream that’s far off. Torture!

  2. Is it bad that I want those bags purely to have the chicest swimbag on the block? Really lovely. I want to see the top half of that Cos dress too as think I love that too. Curse you, Buble, for bringing out the consumer in me!

  3. oh!!! mini furla USB? Wow! Where can i buy it? Please tell me! Big transparent Furla is not for me, beacause i have big mess in my bags…

  6. This is exactly how a sponsored post should be! Well done Susie for navigating a tricky corridor and coming out with something quite charming and genuine. The bags are totally you and your aesthetic and its pretty clever of the brand to realize this potential. Nice gifties!

  7. Wow, it’s the first time, I am really jealous of you.
I’d love to have the pink or green bag since I first saw one of them. Why am I not living in London????

  8. That Louise Gray dress is GOLDEN and of course you accessorize perfectly, per usual.
I’ll be e-mailing you tomorrow with my bag contents when the sun is (hopefully) back out again. These surprisingly sunny London days have been prematurely sending me into Spring-mindedness.
A sponsored post, you lucky girl! You are most definitely a blog goddess!

  10. How cute. Would jelly shoes and one of these bags be too much? The only problem with me is I am a bag content hoarder. I wouldn’t want everyone to know my dirty secret ๐Ÿ˜‰ Maybe it would be an opportunity to get organised x

  11. Your first outfit is f-ing adorable…the fact that you can pull off so many layers of that color is a testament to your style. Good on you!
