>> I love a good seven barrelled G to start off a title (thank you G-Unit…)… though frankly a snazzy G isn't going to hide the fact that I'm a bit short shrift on material to write about at the moment save for little announcements and reminder notices.  Just call the blog Style Bubble Reminds for the next few days…

So reminder reminder…. it's G-g-g-g-g-g-G FW – aka Graduate Fashion Week beginning this Sunday.  I'll be blog blog blogging again from there but perhaps to a lesser degree as I'm not going to be there on the first day (intrepid reporter Steve will be there in my plastic booth… ) nor on the last day either… but I WILLLL try and see everything… and once again of course, feel free to come up to my ickle booth and wave at me through the slightly scratched perspex… I promise I won't be too distracted by SD cards/USB sticks/Irfanview…

A pretty awesome run-up shoot has just come out though to celebrate this year's GFW… I'm betting that the following students will be incredibly chuffed that their graduate collection was handpicked by Dazed & Confused fashion editor Katie Shillingford to be shot by Rankin… actually, if any of these students read this blog, maybe you'd like to leave a comment saying HOW chuffed you were… feel free to use emoticons if you're MEGA-chuffed.  In all seriousness though, it is an amazing opportunity to be shot by Rankin/Shillingford at such an early stage of one's design career… is it weird that I get a wee bit proud about the amount of hurrahs/huzzahs we make over UK's fashion graduates (going beyond the usual LCF, CSM, RCA peeps…).

Anna Lee, De Montford University – It's like Edvard Munch's skies in The Scream going wild on this dress….

A Lee, De Montfort University

Carly Ellis, University of Westminster – A touch of the Cassette Playa about this… but I do love a good heat map…

C Ellis, University of Westminster

Garry Butterfield, University of Northampton – Rust going into lime and then going back again into rust… like a strange pattern on sandstone formations…

G Butterfield, University of Northampton

Gina Webster, Birmingham City University – There's a bit 2000 era MySpace animated GIF coming alive on this coat…

G Webster, Birmingham City University

Kitty Keay, Colchester School of Art – Why have fringe in just one colour when you can have it err… 25?

K Keay, Colchester School of Art

Lisa Marie Jones, University of Wales – We've seen cages a lot, but what about physical chains encasing the body complete with what looks to be a chastity belt padlock?

Lisa Marie Jones, University of Wales

Beth Spurr (left) and Lucy Hammond (right), Kingston University – "I Heart Knitting, I'm Not Hitting Shitting" … wise words there… (**EDIT** Suddenly that makes a whole lot more sense…!)

L-R, B Spurr & L Hammond, both Kingston University

Phoebe Thirwall, Nottingham Trent University – Possibly my favourite look of the ten…. I love the way the different directions of the ribbing runs and how it all gets a bit warped and 'bunched up' in the middle…

P Thirlwall, Nottingham Trent University

Rebecca Thomson, Manchester Metropolitan Univeristy – I'm hoping this sort of layered styling carries through to the show… not sure how I'd feel about the dress on its own…

R Thomson, Manchester Metropolitan University2

Sera Ulger, Ravensbourne College – Ravensbourne always come out as a must-see at GFW and Sera's bird like print on a mohair dress bodes well for the show…

I love graduate fashion collections. They always have such youth about them, for obvious reasons.

  9. Very funky chic, kind of roc ‘n roll a little bit. This post is great fun.

As a first year Fashion student there, I am disappointeed at the lack of coverage given to Northumbria University. Not only did they win more awards than any other uni at GFW (and in general!) last eyar but i know from my own eyes that some of the collections are AMAZING.

  17. graduate collections are always fun to watch. There is definitely a lot of innovation in these ones. I loved the dress with the chains, it’s kinda feminine and so rough at the same time.
