Unlikely Equation

Unlikely Equation

Who knew that…

MEXX, a chain that popped up in the UK randomly in Covent Garden when I was about 15 or so, which turns ous to be a Netherlands-export selling office basics and not much else (well I have to scratch the head hard as it's been a while since I've been in one…)…

EnD, a young Dutch label started by Eva van Overbeeke and Delia Driel that does quirky prints and playful shapes (see below)…

Dutch Grazia which apparently has been going for about six months and is basically what UK Grazia is but in monthly format and on nicer paper… EDIT – After a lovely interview with a Dutch Grazia journalist, I retract my ill-informed statements.  It's been around for two years and is in fact weekly… it just has nicer paper than the UK one…

A ten piece collection by EnD for Mexx powered by Grazia that revolves around clowns.  A bit of a chunky and somewhat confusing equation there.  Get that round your heads, those with insane mathematical skills (you can tell I'm bitter from being decidedly NOT mathematically gifted)  Now of course, seeing as I have that predictable fear of clowns (who doesn't?!?) I was a wee bit freaked out by the make-up but the faces themselves on the clothes aren't so scary, probably because the menacing grin is abstracted and gone are the bloodshot eyes and congealing white make-up…

Mexxend1 Mexxend2

Mexxend3 Mexxend4

All in all, a rather odd mixture of parties involved that has turned out to be surprisingly successful..

ooooh very nice, I’d written Mexx off ages ago. I love the tops with mesh. Love the equation metaphor.

slightly frightening and an odder equation than my end of years math test but somehow it worked surprisingly well!

Whoa, I actually really like it all! The clown hoodie is so awesome. I don’t know why, it just is. I just wish the sleeves were full length.

I remember Mexx having quite a big presence in HK and then it disappeared. I like that you can still see strong Mexx elements in the knits of the collection, very clever collaboration!

I have a huge clown phobia so was a bit scared to scroll down but didn’t find it too clownish at all….very subtle clowns! I love the purple with the sheer sleeves. I’ve wanted some sheer-ness ever since seeing your long skirt Susie.

Mmmh, I really rather like this EnD collection for Mexx. I’m not usually nuts about ‘over-done’ nor over-designed pieces but these somehow seem to float my boat.

I am not mathematically gifted either, but this kind of makes me smile.

What a combination! It has yielded some exciting pieces.
Mexx closed all its shops in the UK a little while back I think.. probably never cracked the ultra competitive British high street.
