GFW 2009: Hairy Arms

>> No, I'm not talking about hirsute people or Pete Sampras (I was terrified of his hairyness for some reason growing up, watching him play…).  Marte Brauter at the Kingston Bournemouth (apologies for the typo… not use to posting so excessively…) show demonstrated a plait up the arm adding volume in an unexpected and suprisingly aesthetically pleasing way…. even better if she ever sold this dress, she should leave the hair unplaited and let me have some fun plaiting it down the arm…

GFW 2009: Excess Excess…?

>>SHOWstudio's Alex Fury made a comment on the CSM BA show that despite the hard times, overblown gowns heavy with fabric were everywhere, trains struggling to be dragged by models and a general feeling amongst the audience that we're not in the right frame of mind for excess… today, there was definitely excess in terms of quantity of fabric but fortunately, nothing too overwrought and painful to watch (yup, talking about the CSM grad that had a model looking like she might cry walking down the runway because of the IMMENSE size of the gown…).

At the Northampton show, first show of the day… Nilupul Hettiarachahige was also out to give excess with models obscured in a giant ruffles/rosettes and yards of fabric flying away from the body.

Bridie MacLeod at Kingston also ruffled and frilled to a lesser extent… with an Emma Cook feel to the way the pieces fell…

Alexander James has attempted reinventing a new set of clothes for his imaginary/contemporary emperor and has succeeded in injecting the most amount of fabric into these super pleated trousers that fell like harem pants and from behind had an extraordinary amount of detailing…

GFW 2009: Tasty Tate

>> First show of the day was University of Northampton and one student that really stood out for me didn't make any clothes but is a footwear and accessories grad.  I'm appreciative of the fact the school showcased footwear/accessories grads on the runway – otherwsie I wouldn't have felt the full on effect of Onyedika Tate's wedges with cut-out and lace-up detailing.  These aren't even the most ornate of her footwear collection so I'll try and track down more of her images…

She also designed an amazing collection of sunglasses which I couldn't capture properly on camera… it's a mask/sunnie hybrid fit for a sun warrior.

**EDIT** More shades that defy conventions…

GFW 2009: The Plastic Box Bubble

>> So bleary-eyed me hopped back to London this morning, again getting up at stupid o'clock and whizzed to Graduate Fashion Week (good job on the site redesign…MUCH better) straight from the airport.  I can't even hide my sleep deprived self as I have myself a Style  Bubble stand here where I'm blogging from, set up with all the tech tools I need… there will be more posts than usual over the next few days so apologies if your Bloglovin', Twitter feed or RSS feed gets a bit clogged up…

Drop in like a bird if you're about…I promise you the yawning face isn't from boredom but down to severe lack of sleep…
