“I’m just ‘borrowing’ this for a bit…”

It's no secret that I'm a wardrobe thiever when it comes to the boyf.  I'm quite brazen about it all to be honest.  Seeing as Steve will be the first one to admit that I have expanded his horizons and I'm quoting here…

Me: Hey boo boo (this is what I call him…don't ask), would you have bought half the stuff you have in your present wardrobe if you weren't going out with me?
Steve: It's difficult to say because it's been a gradual kind of change but you've certainly introduced a number of designers to me.  *Pats me on the head in condescending way*

Thanks Steve, I don't charge any style consultation fees of course because my love is for freeeeeeeeeeeeee…

Anyway, I consider it a semi-right to therefore pillage his wardrobe from time to time and his recent purchases have made me do this more and more.  I only wish of course that I could return the favour but I'm thinking Steve is going to have difficulty working pink gradiated fringe, sequinned hot pants and satin leggings… we'll certainly delve into the possiblity of a vice-versa swapsie…

Veronique Branquinho Cardigan – This is a bit of a bargain on The Corner at the mo and after Steve gave up in real life shop sales where it was impossible to find anything in his size, it was a big hurrah to find this online.

Steve (COS checked shirt, Hurqundeki gingham bow tie, Uniqlo navy wool trousers, Uniqlo socks, Swear grey patent brogues) Me (Vanessa Bruno gradiated fringe scarf top, Topshop satin swing jacket, Tao knitted peach shorts, John Lewis grey ribbed tights, Topshop grey sandals)

Carola Euler Stills Jersey Cardigan
– Ah…the sneaky pressie from moi to him trick…a useful tactic that I'm employing more and more.  That I happen to like wearing it of course doesn't deter from the fact that it's still a somewhat joyful pressie for him of course.

Me (Vintage pleated floral top, Roland Mouret textured olive top, Moschino Cheap & Chic scalloped skirt, M&S grey sheer stockings, Marni heels), Steve (Yookoo charcoal cowl, Martin Margiela t-shirt, Unconditional jeans with zip detail, Lanvin boots)

Hurwundeki Suit Jacket – Mannish blazers are a no-brainer when the man has a blazer that you can wear.  Saves me from searching for 'mannish blazers' in womenswear domains.

Steve (Handmade in England sheer white shirt, M&S blue velvet bowtie, customised Reiss/Uniqlo double layered cardigan, People's Market grey trousers, Uniqlo socks, Swear metallic blue shoes), Me (Yokoo oatmeal cowl, H&M sheer top, H&M wool corset, H&M painterly tiered dress – this was my sale binge yesterday, Wolford tights, Zara patent ankle boots)

Material Boy Rucksack – I excitedly pointed this out to Steve when we were in Bang Bang as he has already recalled and yup again, you've guessed it – I absolutely plan to take this with me on fashion week to carry everything for blogging on-the-go and look like a fashion geek.  50% ownership rights papers are being drawn up as we speak…

Me (Vintage tweed jacket, H&M sheer top, vintage gold bed jacket inside, Comme des Garcons x H&M dropp crotch trousers, Miu Miu sequinned shoes), Steve (Vintage wool blazer, Ksubi polka dot t-shirt, Unconditional drop crotch trousers, bStore silver trainers)

  1. hey, the collages are really neat! I love this post. since i have a faible for “borrowing” from bf myself this encourages me to put his wardrobe into even more use ^^

  2. i always borrow my boyfriend’s plaid work shirts (which were actually hand-me-downs from my dad). A fav is this Christian Dior shirt in a beautiful butter shade. I also steal his thick chunky wool socks that look rather nice layered over leggings.
It’s funny how a partner flips the script on your own personal style.

  3. The blazer and jersey cardigan work well on both of you. I’m all for couples sharing wardrobes. Though some of us don’t give things back. Which is shameful and something I have never done.

  4. He he, I do the pressie thing too, but my gifts are housy things like the posh tray I bought him for Xmas which of course I will be using too. Ditto many a photography/art book but tbh, I’m sure he does the same. PS, I’m doing LFW backpack stylee too – I’ve just rediscovered my old Hysteric Glamour one!

  5. these photos are so damn cool! nice to see some classic bubble outfit remixes, and how great do the h&m/comme pants and the miu mius look together!

  6. I love borrowing from my boyfriend’s wardrobe too, it’s always lots of fun. You and Steve look so good! Thank you for putting us on the links list too. xx

  7. Because my hubby is quite a casual dresser itβ€šΓ„Γ΄s quite a rarity that I raid his wardrobe bar perhaps for the odd pair of socks but sometimes it’s just nice to wear your loved ones clothing.
My husband always goes bonkers though when I steal his stuff cause he says I’ve got more clothes than Topshop in Oxford Street (slight exaggeration).

  8. Your bf is sooo stylish!! I have my brother’s wardrobe to pick thing from, but i can’t tell him what to buy and where…
    awww i need a bf!!
    xx

  9. Things like this make me want a stylish boyfriend just to be able to raid his closet! πŸ™‚ I think it’s awesome that you two share clothes!

  10. Omigosh, I love this post so much. I’ll have to e-mail this post to all my friends who don’t think that unisex stuff is cool. (I have made it my mission in life to dissuade them from this way of thinking.)

  11. I enjoyed these outfits! You look great, and your hair and lipstick are so perfect. You are so thin I cannot believe these losers saying you are fat. Disgusting.

  12. i’ve been thinking this for a while, especially after checking out steve’s blog. you two are probably the most stylish couple EVER. and it’s the best type of style, totally personal and quirky. if only we could all be so lucky as to have a man whose clothes are as cool as our own!

  13. Thanks for everyone’s comments…Steve is blushing…
To those who haven’t started raiding their other half’s wardrobe yet… just go for it… they’ll never know!!!
I do count myself lucky in stylish boyf respect…but I’ve paid my singledom dues with years of bad dates and horrid loneliness… I’m hoping this one stucks around a bit…
    Rollergirl: Hysteric Glamour…? Yesssh…
Tricia: No way?????? I don’t know why we do it…. it’s a bit sickening really…
Keira: Nah…that’s not me alas….I rarely wear strapless dresses without a t-shirt underneath…
Ltp: Link added….she seems very cool! Doesn’t really look like me though…she’s far prettier!
Ji Kim: Thanks for commenting back… yeah, I had a weight stalker here for a while… kept on saying I was either losing/gaining weight… it was quite amusing/freaky…

  14. Ahhh this post is too adorable for words. I try to borrow the BF’s clothes because there are some very covetable things in there but his eyes get tight around the corners when he catches me ‘cos he knows they won’t get back to him!

  15. This is amazing. I love seeing how you both style the same piece, and I’m so jealous that your boyf lets you style him. I never raid my husband’s closet, although funny enough, he has a habit of stealing my sweaters, jackets and scarves….
    xxx,
    Tiffany

  16. Tiffany: Ah that wasn’t me styling the boyf…Steve can dress himself and those outfits in the pics are all his doing… I just *ahem* push him in the way of certain items…

  17. i really love this.
i always try doing this with my boyf’s stuff but i tend to look quite swamped in the stuff because of our height difference x

  18. There is no pushing, a gentle nudge or a subtle move of the eyes maybe but certainly no pushing…
Part two of this post will see me squeezing into Susie’s clothes…I should warn you all that the results will not be as pretty though.

  19. u r so lucky that u have a stylish bf. Mine is not interested a lil frustrating any tips??? Love how u laid out the pics it makes u feel the transformation!

  20. ahhh ha! you two really are so cute. you’re individual styles complement one another so well. i also call my husband booboo…glad to know it’s not just me…i’m always so embarrassed when i say it in public πŸ™‚ funny though, he is the one always borrowing my button ups and squeezing into my trousers. yet, he slaps my hands when i go for his closet.

  21. I was going to say I call my boyfriend boo… well that is short for boocat. *slinks off to hide*
am glad I’m not the only one. πŸ˜€

  22. your boyfriend has got amazing style! you’re very lucky you guys can share things. teh amazing thing too is that it looks feminine on you and masculine on him. those pieces are extremely versatile. or you both are probably just very good at styling them. =)

  23. im pretty much in love with you both, collectively, as a couple.
i have a tendency to do that.
at the last wedding i went to, i fell in love with this lovely norweigan man and his korean wife who was the most elegant, graceful, beautiful, sophisticated woman i had ever met.
truely, it was love at first sight for me. i think it’s pretty much the same case, when i see you and steve together.

  24. You made me laugh this evening, and that is no small feat, as I am uber grump right now.
All your pillaging is justified of course, and boo boo ;)( I know I don’t have the privl to call him that) wore your zipper necklace once, so you are even.

  25. Boo boo… LOL. That’s so adorable. I would love to borrow a few things from my bf’s closet too except he’s a wee bit too tall so they things never quite fit me well…

  26. Hehe, just re: fitting into the boyf’s clothing…luckily, Steve buys things fairly fitted/tailored or in S which means I can plausibly wear them…. or else I’m just a fattie who can fit into guy’s clothing…?
    Pindungo: Doubtful…VERY doubtful…

  27. in a way, i’m touched by your post. so this is the boyf (he has his own blog?!) – he’s lovely! love the way he wears his trousers – and the way he poses! πŸ˜‰
each of you looks like a reflexion of the other, funny.
(me too thinks my boyf looks much better since the day when we were going out with each other. I-) )

  28. I’m off to raid Jon’s closet! He went to D.C. for the inauguration… He’ll be in for a surprise when he comes back! So far, I’ve only stolen a 70s heathered gray sweatshirt… it rocks. Oh and a red one with penguins Jazzercising… yes, really.

  29. Oh, Susie, this is lovely! Presentation of photos & outfits & all! You look so casual, chic and comfortable in Steve’s clothes, you guys are a perfect match πŸ™‚

  30. This post is genius! Isn’t that what boyfriends are for… wardrobe stealing <3 Shockingly I have gigantic feet, the same size as my petite boys, so I often nick his sneakers, yay.

  31. Love this idea, it’s so clever and totally gives me ideas for raiding my own bf’s closet. LOVE the blog too, totally inspirational!
    ~Faith

  32. But why NOT? I mean, how about an experiment where we put Steve in pieces from YOUR wardrobe? I would like to see some of your textured or architectural pieces on Steve…

  33. This post is so cute! I love how you both manage to make the items work for you guys. BTW has anyone ever mentioned that your bf looks like Jake McDorman?

  34. You guys are so ridiculously chic *and* adorable (who knew there was such a combo?!). I wish my boyfriend wore things I’d want to borrow.

  35. Long time watcher.. never commenter. this post in particular has inspired me, and i just wanted to say charming as ever. your style and vision is more becoming every time i visit… i just don’t think i say it enough.
