So I as I mentioned in my last post, I did try to drum up enthusiasm inside me for the Comme des Garcons x H&M collaboration despite my previous indifference to the collection and the fact that I was only initially only interested in the one frock coat (which were apparently all snapped up by the press people the night before at the Vogue/GQ event and by a dude who took all of them in the Regent Street store and is now selling them on eBay for a gross amount of money….).  Once inside, of course I couldn’t just hold a camera and film away whilst looking on at the people scrambling for things.  The staff were already giving me odd looks.  So in a way I was pressurised to start picking things up off the rack.  I had already ruled out spending anything over ¬£50 as my money is pinched (four days before pay day is never a good situation for my bank balance…) and I’m not really enthused over polka dots.  Ergo, the wool trousers with a SEVERE drop crotch was my chosen buy at a unshabby price of ¬£35 – not at all unreasonable for a pair of pure wool trews with good pocket linings (they got me excited for some reason…) and a very distinctive shape.

As for the quality of the rest of it, I generally agreed with Alex from SHOWstudio who I caught on video (he took a day off work just for the occasion.  The quality was better than what we both expected.  But really, no true verdict can be given until time and wear and tear is experienced.  A reader has already pointed out that the wool on the jackets is starting to thin and it’s only been four days, so deterring me to spend 70 quid on the assymetric zipper jacket.

Still, with my specific trews, as soon as I put them on the boyf said "They look really expensive…" – those might just be bitter words though as despite his own nochalance to the whole collab, he kinda does want a few items.  They also fall into the brackets of trews that I would normally go for on the rare occasion that I do buy trousers.  I spotted a fair few guys delving into womenswear and picking these ones up.  I’d actually like to propose something which is that if the dudes out there are brave enough, send in pics of yourself wearing them and allow me to demonstrate the sex-versatility of them by putting them up on the blog.  (Email me here or here).  Unisex quality aside, they’re also versatile styling-wise too…

The ultimate thought that floated in my head, and yes it is a selfish one, was that with the dubious quality and the yoyo pricing of the collection, I’m thankful that Londoners get access to the Dover Street Market market sample sale, for people to unearth really juicy heart-palpitating bargains as opposed to clinging to a designer collaboration that is less of a fun lucky dip and far more limited in scope.

I just found you on twitter…yay!

  2. Beany says:

Loving that last outfit. Sadly, I would get laughed at if I wore them in my little village where the height of fashion is shellsuit bottoms tucked into socks!

  3. camille says:

lucky girl! the pants look amazing on you! i especially like them in the last outfit pair with docs.

  4. SOS! says:

the pants look great on you Ms Bubbles. The lowest drop crotch pants I have are not even half as low as these, and I get looks from people sometimes. Bravo, great buy.

  5. adaku says:

hey you’ve been tagged, check out my blog for deets.

  6. it sounds like this collection was more civilized than the previous ones. i havent heard anything about it being sold out in 5 mintues.
i really like the last outfit.

  7. Fenke says:

wow, every single outfit is wow. looove the pink bow hat… i am still looking for a great headpiece to wear at my wedding… any tipps?

  8. KD says:

GAH! Why must you look so amazing and prove such a seemingy odd piece so versatile!??! I may sound jealous, but really, I’m just amazed at your amazingness!

  9. g says:

i think thats a great purchase… i dont really understand why you were sooo against this collection with h&m nd CDG?? i mean not everyone wants to go nd buy a real cdg piece witch costs loooads.. ok u proboblly would but forfashion students and everyone else this has been an amazing collaboration..so sorry but this time i must dissagree with u suzy

  10. Tavi says:

Oh no! Now you’re making me completely mad at myself for accidentally picking up a size 12…stupid stupid me! Right after seeing these pictures I literally jumped out of my seat to try and see if I could style my ridiculously oversized ones as well as you have. Alas, they are far too huge, so I guess I will have to wear them vicariously through you…
The video you posted was amazing too. Your accent is just so nice to listen to, and the questions you posed were very thoughtful. I agree about the polka dots, it was kind of “lets take something as basic as a button down, put polka dots on it, then give it a label and $60 price tag!” I managed to get the blue button down that had more paint, splotch-like dots, but I might be selling it along with the pants to get one of the jackets…

  11. WendyB says:

    I like that neon thingie.

  12. susie_bubble says:

G: I wasn’t AGAINST the collection…I was INDIFFERENT…there’s a difference… in the scheme of things, if I was planning out my shopping year, and I knew there was a Comme des Garcons sample sale coming up where I could buy pieces that are roughly the same price as some of this CdG H&M stuff, then I’d personally opt for that and spend my money there… that’s just a personal preference because in London, it’s fortunate that there are more sample sales… I’m not AGAINST the H&M collaboration…I bought a piece! I just wasn’t that excited beforehand and it seems going by the crowds in London, the enthusiasm wasn’t really sky high….

  13. violetville says:

excellent choice! those trousers were the only item that piqued my interest in the collection. i do like that they’re wool, and I love the shape (you wear them particularly well) – but is that an elasticized waistband?

  14. hek says:

They look really good on you:) Loving the outfit with the pink west.

  15. Anna-Mariaf says:

Those drop crotches look great on you! The last look is the best. I picked up a pair too but I think I don’t have guts to actually wear them. They look great on my bf though, so maybe he will keep them. 🙂

  16. Grace says:

    these outfits look amazing!

  17. Anna-Maria says:

Oh and did you get a better camera? Your pictures look much clearer now. 🙂

  18. Nadir Tejani says:

I tried them on and thought there was way too many fabric going on, but they look great on you, specially paired with the Doc Martens, so Dior Homme Winter 07.

  19. Love your styling of them. I cant wait till my pair I bought online from Forever21 flies through the door.
Im so jealous, however, that you went.

  20. amanda says:

i love how you styled the outfit with the fred butler necklace…gives it a whole new vibe

  21. Mies says:

Ooh I bought those from the online shop (lucky we have that here) and I can’t wait for them to get here now!! They look great on you.

  22. Meghan says:

I don’t normally love your outfits – love your adventurous spirit thought!- but I love that last outfit with the sailor top.

  23. love the last outfit

  26. g says:

the last message was from me by the way
    thanks Suzy

  27. t says:

Ooh I’m so jealous! I really wanted to get a pair of those dropped crotch trousers, but alas got to H&M too late and they were already sold out. There are a few pairs up on ebay now, but I’m not sure whether they’re worth double the original price… 🙁

  28. floraposte says:

How do you always manage to work the unlikeliest garments so well?? In Dublin, they only stocked the tops and one of the shirts and the trench coat. They were very well made for H&M, but as you said it is the wear that is the key.

  29. KatahD says:

Because of that Commes des garcons coat/ebayThey actually have a sign up at H&M saying that you are only allowed a maximum of 2 repeated items per customer of any item in the commes des garcons collection…

  30. Brigadeiro says:

WOW! I never expected the drop-crotch pants to look so amazing! I love every single outfit! My faves are #1, 3 & 5, you wear them so well! Gives me further inspiration on how to wear the Harem pants I seem to be thrashing on my blog (so comfy though!). Great buy for 35 quid! Were there any other items you think looked good?
I’m in love with your patent Toga jacket, Pierre Hardy x Louise Goldin ankle boots & Tofu oversized blazer, LOVE them!
OMGosh! DSM have sample sales?!? When? Might have to ask my sisters to keep a lookout for me 🙂

  31. ani says:

Wow, I love the last outfit so much..! Too bad there’s no CDG in the H&M near me =(

  32. Brandon says:

Oh btw thanks for showing how versatile they are i mean they could go with sooo many things. i wore them yesterday with a black trenchcoat (H&M but not the comme one) high light blue socks and blue vans. kind of fun! but dont really think i got the colours right, but determined to keep trying 😛

  33. winnie says:

I would have said a big no to those trews but you really do make them work! I had a browse today in the Birmingham store but wasn’t really overly impressed. Definitely saved myself quite a few pounds!

  34. tanya says:

i think your styling makes these pants look expensive.
your vesatility never fails to amaze me. love all the looks 🙂

  35. LOVE LOVE those pants,in fact love the whole outfit –tres chic!

  36. laura says:

Susie you look effing fantastic. you were them so well
    totally jealous.

  37. Bonjour,
Where can we see Alex video ?
Great look with your doc Martens

  38. Anonymous says:

On the contrary, I found the CDG line to be quite a joke. I thought that although it was for H&M, they would put much more effort into better quality (some of the things looked like total crap!) and designs. I mean of course they wouldn’t make it as amazing as their collection…but I was severely disappointed at CDG. I feel as if Rei Kawakubo herself was making a secret and almost evil joke (or a comment) on mass markets and how animalistic humans can be…I’m from the US and I cannot tell you how insane everyone was inside the store.

  39. NiceAndShiny says:

Those pants would be my number one pic for the CDG H&M collection. They’re Ah-mazing!! Major crop droppage=trueloveforever.
They look incredible on you! Couldn’t be styled better, really.
ps- You look like lovefoxx in outfit number 2, lol! Never a bad thing, btw!

  40. ben says:

Damn, if there was an H&M that carried them anywhere near me, I would totally take you up on that unisex challenge, I wear drop-waist pants that are sort of similar to those…actually, I’m wearing them right now!

  41. Intreegue says:

I love how versatile those pants are

  42. enc says:

I hope some guys do send photos, because I’d like to see guys in those trousers again.
You did a great job styling them. I’d like to see how they hold up.

  43. Katlin says:

Great styling! I especially love the first outfit and the pink flower on your head one. 🙂

  44. Wonderful styling options. I would get a pair, but I wouldn’t know what to do with them. If I see much more of this, more money will soon be parting with me. LOL.

  45. Ha! My husband jokingly tried on my CDG jacket, but was completely bewildered by the thing. Nonetheless, I thought it looked great on him (it fit him snug, but in a nice shrunken sort of way) and took pictures of him wearing it and put them on my blog.
    xxx,
    Tiffany

  46. Secretista says:

    A good choice indeed!

  47. ap says:

i was moping about because i thought i had foreseen a lack of excitement and hence non-impressive queues, that be enough reason for me to breeze in afternoon time and pick up some trews(as in bubblespeak)and white shirts with ruffled(?) sleeves. alas it was not to be……even in sleepy vancouver i was waaaay too late. getting a polka dot shirt was the last thing on my list, if i felt that the collab was underwhelming now i am chewing my words as it did present some interesting less overpriced alternatives… vancouver had me fooled by its lack of a ‘fashion presence’ oh i wish i was somewhere else, london would be nice as susie helpfully pointed out, ahaha

  48. chantelle says:

You look super wicked! I like all the ensembles you put together. You’re always so original, and true to your individual style.
    Thank you for that.

  49. susie_bubble says:

Punky: That is NOT my Twitter…I’m not on Twitter…somebody set up my Twitter under false details and is pretending to be me…. I don’t know why… I’m setting up another one that is genuinely mine… don’t follow that one!
Regarding the Dover Street Market sample sale…of course it happened back in April…so I’m HOPING it will come round annually and happen again next year…
Chloe: Alex speaks towards the end of my video that I did for the H&M x CDG launch…see two posts back…
Anon: You might be right…I just can’t believe it was so crazy in NYC…. perhaps they’re not feeling the crunch/pinch as much as we are over here….
Brandon, thank you for sending the pics…. but where are the other guys…I KNOW men were buying these trews…. don’t be shy!
Thanks everyone for the comments…I personally prefer outfits 1 and 3 and 4…. the last one is a bit severe and dour with the boots I feel….

  50. eeeee!!!!!!!!!!! i really love those black Doc Martens

  51. una says:

You look great Susie, LOVE the first pic , but I hate the elasticated waist, unless it’s covered there is no way that can work.

  52. KatGeorge says:

Susie, I absolutely love them! I was looking at them in the lead up to the launch, and they were the only peice I think I was really attracted to.
This style of pants was huge in Melbourne last year, and yet I haven’t had the balls to give them a shot- I feel like I’m far too short! So instead I’ve resigned myself to gazing in envy at brave girls like you. You look amazing. xx

  53. Joanna says:

Love the pants & the last pic with the Doc Martens! Just letting you know I’ve just started a blog & since this blog is one of the best I’ve come across you’re in my top blogs list! Hope you don’t mind.

  54. That last outfit is my favourite! I love it because when those style of trousers came out the ONE RULE that everyone said was only wear them with heels and never with flats and you totally made them work with DMs and, in fact, made it my favourite outfit on the whole. Although the first outfit comes a close second…

  55. juliet says:

I got justa plain pink shirt. Nothing special (in a way that people will know where I got it) , but I actually think I will use it a lot.
    juliet xxx

  56. june says:

doesn’t look good on you at all…..

  57. miss woo says:

At least you manage to find an interesting piece. I think the collection is okay..the jackets look alright but the rest are kinda boring..

  58. I love those trousers, I wouldn’t have thought to wear them in all those different ways.

  59. Amber Rose says:

Those are so hot with those docs. Love this blog x100000

  60. Cate says:

Hm I never could sum up the enthusiasm to go to H&M to view their collaboration collection with Comme des Garcons. Maybe because Comme des Garcons is a label I don’t like at all. Maybe because of their perfumes, which smell of burnt tires.
But anyway. You look so cool in those outfits, especially in the first and third one. I love the idea of wearing all black but with that gold embroidery and different textures in the first outfit. The second one reminds me of the 80s! Great!

  61. Kay says:

I like the first outfit best; drop crotches need to be balanced by a shorter top half I think.
You look really good in them – I admire your bravery! They definitely require confidence and the wearer to be confident in them.
Also I’m aware I completely missed the boat on the link-to-your-blog front but if you ever have a spare, bored moment maybe you’d like to take a look at my blog? http://thestitched.blogspot.com – not expecting a link, I would just be nice if you got the chance to see it as you are the person who inspired me to create it in the first place (:

  62. Sonya says:

    i looove your style.
    damn addorable

  63. cindiddy says:

    love those pants girlie!
    love you blog!

  64. Tuva says:

    LOVE that last look!!

  65. Lady Smaggle says:

Girl you do not do enough outfit shots. I freakin love them. Those pants rock my world. And your balcony is awesome. Damn I love the bubble.

  66. fanny says:

those are the pants i bought too. i was also totally stoked about the pocket linings! it’s all about the finishing details!

  67. evie says:

nice! i really wanted this pair and the dress from the collection, but it was not meant to be. still, i’m glad to see someone rocking them and shall be very content with my existing harem pants from zara instead.

  68. cessa says:

oooo.. thanks for giving me plenty of new ideas on how to style my new favorite trousers! In Oslo the only thing that went early was the scarf and maybe the fancy dress (never saw that one actually). I got the drop crotch trousers and a sweater, 100% wool, perfect for the cold weather we are having. And also the asymmetrical jacket on saturday. I find the shirts and polkadot tops quite boring, but love the details on the rest! The little extra pockets inside the pocket on the dropcrotch trouser for example. It’s far beyond normal H&M finishing…

  69. Absolutely inspiring…

  70. Candy says:

I felt the quality & finish was quite good, just shocked with the sizing on the h&m labels uk10=eu36? Whats gone wrong with them, we all know it’s an eu38… lucky most people know to go for the more accurate eu size. it’s a shame men had to buy the ladies collection (should have made a selection of trousers for men). i regret not paying more attention to the trousers.

  71. fleurette says:

i adore the styling, esp the first and last. after seeing these pics i’m considering getting myself a pair of “real” harem pants. but how is it like to walk in these pants? i have a pair of “harem pants” in tuxedo fabric and their so hard to walk in!

  72. hey Susie,
I have 2 questions for you, regarding the pantaloons:
    1. Do you feel they fit true to size? I want to pick up a pair, but i hear rumors they run small. What size are you wearing, and is it your normal size?
    2. How much did these pups retail for? I want to know exactly HOW much i am getting reamed.
    they are so lovely. arrr.

  73. woops – i see the retail. i shall get reamed…
