Apologies for the slooow report…. I had to edit the video twice because my computer kept on cutting out in power.  Still, it’s done now and I do believe we have the mildest/calmest H&M/Designer collaboration on our hands (I can’t speak for Roberto Cavalli’s collab but I hear there were bitch slaps going on…).  Blame it on the economic scare-mongering but the turnout was distinctly civlised, non-hysterical and in numbers, barely even touched that crazy queue that was going in Tokyo for the launch.  No bad thing especially when designer x high street collaborations are hitting a brimming point with efforts being made to make them more interesting and ultimately enticing, and so in the spirit of pro-choice and all, you can pick and choose what you buy as opposed to feeling pressurised into buying SOMETHING just because it’s a DESIGNER collaboration.  Oh, and I’m a liar liar pants on fire, I did buy something…more on that later… for now here’s the vid…

i was almost scared to watch, but that wasn’t too bad. you can tell i’m hungover though.
really good sum up of the day. wish i’d bothered to take photos.

  2. Brigadeiro says:

Great piece of ‘journalism’! Loved the vid!
Ooh! Am curious to see what you picked up and what you thought of the ‘collection’. Love your accent!
OT, I recall your recent ‘Disney’ post, yesterday I bought a Mickey Mouse sequinned tee (pic in my blog), thought of your post as I was in the store…

  3. Great vid. I’m glad people didn’t turn violent…don’t understand going to war over a shirt…

  4. christie says:

i’m really glad you posted this video. it’s a fresh change from all the negativity that’s been floating about in forums and such. perhaps londoners are much more civilized. not anything at all like the states where people were pushing and shoving each other just to get a scarf. i couldn’t be bothered to wait so early but those jackets seemed really nice.

  5. lady covetd says:

wow… i was totally nervous for those people waiting in line!
quite honestly , i don’t think i could be so organized about what i want… enough to want to wait in line… well that and i’m afraid of crowds.

  6. lopi says:

Wow, you really put some serious effort into documenting the event and it shows! How cute was the guy who went just to buy things for his girlfriend! I loved the whole video, it really looks professional but definitely not boring-professional. And may I say, your voice sounds like velvet!
I went in the main H&M Athens branch at about 12:30 (I’m no early riser) and still managed to get the hat, the tail coat and the cropped deconstructed jacket with the peter pan collar. My guess is that Greek people aren’t familiar with Comme des Garçons and weren’t impressed by the whole fuss. And they are also too posh to queue for anything! Well, their loss, my gain!

  7. Romeika says:

Great video, loved the editing. Here in Copenhagen, at least in the store I was, it was supercalm, I was there in the afternoon and the collection seemed untouched, almost no people AT ALL around. As expected, I didn’t buy a single piece, and I guess I’m not the only one: I spotted only a single person holding that bag along my entire afternoon shopping spree.

  8. laura says:

Wow Susie that was a really well edited and enjoyable video! Love your accent.
Thank-you for uploading. I really liked the deconstructed women’s jacket that that tall boy was trying on. Can you tell me the RRP?
    thanks!

  9. Good vid very interesting to see everyone enjoying themsleves in an orderly fashion. I look forward to your purchase or purchases!

  10. susie_bubble says:

Laura: That jacket was £70 I believe….I might buy it later when I’m not so broke…

  11. sj says:

oh dear i actually wish i had gone now

  12. Nadir Tejani says:

The video is absolutely great, I can’t believe the queue outside 234 Regent St! Yeah the jacket cost me £70 – I ended up getting it. It’s not 100% wool, it has some elastane in it, so it is stretchable.
    Great piece πŸ™‚

  13. hoyan says:

hi susie! good job on the video, i had to laugh watching it. i think it really captured the spirit of the day!

  14. Top Bird says:

Oh, really nice video. Do you think the guy who had two bagfuls of the stuff and said he ‘didn’t know’ what he bought was just going to flog it all on ebay?

  15. Denise says:

    Well done. More, please.

  16. jeanie says:

i’m to poor to get anything and if the fits so tiny ill be wearing that blazer i want on my thumb

Great video Susie! I did a post with quite a few pictures for the launch in Vancouver. It was very similar. I really didn’t feel that it was an outstanding collection..but it was fun to meet everyone in line. I met up with another blogger of course πŸ˜‰

  20. jessica says:

what is the name of the song playing in the background? i love it. you should have a side commentary on your music tastes, they seem to be superb πŸ™‚

  21. susie_bubble says:

Jessica: The clue was in the title…Don’t Save Us from the Flames (Superpitcher Remix) by M83….an oldie but very good…. the original is great but Superpitcher really elevate this track into something amazing….

  22. Cool vid. That wasn’t nearly as crazy as I’d expected.

  23. Elle says:

I love your video and your voice is lovely! I saw you at the regent street store filming outside before we were allowed to go in. You looked really lovely πŸ™‚ Haha I promise you the regent st store wasn’t just like any other shopping day just as it opened! It was hell and so much pushingand shoving. I doubt that guy had the dress coat. This hodded guy took all the coats just to sell on ebay at £800 a piece 😐 What a b******

  24. violetville says:

lovely – you should do videos more often!

  25. winnie says:

Thanks for this Susie, looking forward to seeing what you picked up in the end!

  26. Celeste says:

    Awesome video Susie!

  27. Sarah Edwina Rose says:

I remember that ‘Garfunkles Stage’ well from the Viktor and Rolf hysteria! People looked calm and civilised too, V&R was like a rugby scrum and everyone was panic grabbing. Great video!

  28. Sarah says:

Loved the video I really enjoyed watching it. The clothes looked great to, I wish I’d made a bit more effort to see it.

  29. Grace says:

Can’t wait to hear about what you purchased!

  30. Samantha says:

yes, YES I LOVE this…I hope you do more videos Susie this is fantastik!

  31. Love the video, you did a great job esp so early in the morning to film this report!!!!

  32. k says:

    I loved the vid!
But I have to say I was surprised at the shoddy quality of the collection. I did read an interview where she was talking about maintaining the integrity of the design with quality materials… but I found it pretty much typical H&M low quality– at an inflated price, of course. And despite my love of comme, I left without buying anything. I’d rather save my $$ for the real thing, which I know would last longer.

  33. Brandon says:

Awww damn I had my back turned to you talking to another queue goer :(. It was in deed calmer then i thought it would be having not attended any of the other collabs. but still the people that jumped into the line when it opened at regent st and that guy that grabbed the shirt out my hand πŸ™ very annoyed with H&M security. stil i wore my drop crotch trous today and i love them! and im looking forward to wearing the decon shirts as well. great video can’t say how pissed i am that i hadn’t turned around to speak.

  34. laura says:

Thanks for the replying Susie…think I might have to also check my funding and purchase that jacket πŸ™‚

  35. Nadir Tejani says:

To be honest the jacket is not that much of a big deal, I might not be keeping it. The quality is not that good and it stretches a bit too much. Besides, it’s soooo short and tiny.

  36. hek says:

I really enjoyed your video:) Great job!
In Oslo it was so slow, There’s actually still things left…
I’m so curious to see what you bought.

  37. Michele says:

You are officially on the road to cult/semi-celebrity status. On the bus to Camden yesterday night, I was people-watching out the window, noticed a couple get off the bus, and was alarmed and impressed by the girl’s fairly amazing shoes, so I looked at the face, and who turned out to be attached to said shoes but you? And, in turn, attached to you was (I’m guessing) the boyfy. And I checked and double-checked, then called my friend, and went “GUESS WHO I JUST SAW?”
    “I don’t know…who?”
    “SUSIE BUBBLE!”
    “NO WAY!”
    We were very overexcited.
So there you go, you got recognised ^_^
Not in a creepy way, though. Honest. I won’t stand outside your house or anything.
Anyway, take care and stay lovely!

I think the stores in UK (or maybe just that store) has more of the stuff (in quantity). Here in Toronto they only had a few of the blazers. And I saw only 2 of the frock coats hanging here and there. Wish I was in UK… or maybe they’ll ship the blazers over here and sell them on clearance or something. I can dream.

  40. God I wish I had been there.
I wanted the jodphur type riding pants!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH watching this vid made me angry, but its not your fault!!
I FREAKING love your accent. and everyone elses!!!

  41. I love the videos you make for these things more than I ever like the clothes. Speaking to Alex was really awesome, he is the most ideal person I could have imagined you talking to.
Something about these collabs never gets my interest. Maybe if Demeulemeester did one I’d stand to hang around for it but I can’t think of anyone else. It doesn’t seem worth it in the end then seeing loads of others in the same gear. I guess that’s why I’d rather have a higher priced piece no one has than one of the many items in these collections. I mean, all this hype for a few polka dots on a shirt?? I guess I’ll never get it.

  42. juliet says:

I did all the queing online. You might miss the feeling, but you get stuff in the right size.

Really enjoyed watching this video. What a great document of the first day. Great work Susie!
I came away with the blue and white striped shirt with the chopped up diagonal panels on the front. I’m stunned it fitted me. (I’m 6′ 4″ and slim with long arms, so off the peg casual shirts are always a problem!)

  44. rollergirl says:

Yes, great work Susie! I bought the polka dot cardi. I’m really pleased with the quality so far. (Ask me again when I’ve washed it though.)

  45. Madeleine says:

Great video!! I <3 the collection for the better quality and the lovely pieces!!

  46. Cynthia says:

Oh my, still looks like it was pretty crowded. No wonder there really wasn’t anything left when I went to the Oxford Circus H&M a day or two later.
I love the video (and your accent)!

  47. jennzinn says:

What a fabulous doc film Susie! I happened past the Rockefeller Center store after work on launch day and there seemed to be a lot of the women’s trenches and seperates filling the front of the store. I haven’t been by again since so I can’t say if this is still the case, though.

  48. selina says:

only JUST been able to watch this (hate xmas temp hours!) and loved it! i really liked the little interviews with people, it was surprising that it seemed quite a serious affair rather than people all excited and hyped up, very much serious shopping. if london was that calm though i’m sort of glad i didn’t bother checking out manchester as it may have been teeny, althought it would have been cool to meet hardcore fashion lovers

  49. Eddie says:

Hey, just realised it was you who were filming at the launch.
I was right at the front of the queue at the regent street branch.

  50. Lady_Rhinoa says:

I didn`t even realise it looks so crazy πŸ˜‰ in London, when something new comes into the stores… Amazing !!!
