Softly does it…

Softly does it…

…harsh lines, strong structures and heaviness is where we’re supposedly heading for so something to soften up the agenda is intriguing.  Barbara Munsel, a designer from Rotterdam though is an independent that probably doesn’t really care about whether structure is in or not (in or out… a concept that I wonder is disappearing altogether…).  She has attributed seasons to her collections but I think there’s something in the strength of her printing techniques and the subtlety about everything that makes the season quite irrelevant.  Printed tights, silk trousers and billowing tops along with the use of luxurious materials that are softly powerful; feathers, crepe de chine, silk, organic cotton…and ever so delicate with the palette too… something that you’d want to lovingly keep in some nude tissue paper (I think I’ve said that about one other collection other than this…) and then gently take it out before wearing, eating aptly delicate things whilst wearing it…(nothing that involves ketchup, spaghetti or soup…)…

I wouldn’t go so far as to say she’scompletely unaffected by trends, do I not spy a little lace there? Feathers? Whimsical fairy prints? x

I was just looking for a new blog to check out when I noticed…thank you for linking me! <3 I was worried my email was a bit bothersome because of the caps letters in the subject header.

i absolutely love the first set of tights, or leggings. they’re beautiful, almost like artwork for your legs. i would love to find a pair somewhere in canada.

this is delicious, like a piece of cake.
    lace as icing.
i’ve always been a fan of rococo-esque pieces and this is the very palette that drew me to the era initially.
    delicate delicate.
    great post
i’ve never heard of this designer, so thanks.

The prints are gorgeous and delicate, but they’d take some courage to wear, especially for one who’s used to suits and more traditional and somber fashions. Still, variety never hurt anyone. Wearing these would be akin to wearing a cloud, methinks.

    Hey Susie,
I’m going to New York for the first time on Tuesday for 12 days, can you recommend me some shops? So far on my list I have: Seven, Oak NYC and Opening Ceremony – do you have any to add?

these pieces are really beautiful. so delicate. it is so easy to image how you would feel wearing these pieces and how the fabric would weigh. really magical. it reminds me of the tim walker photograph with lily cole on the spiral stair case. you can imagine wearing this piece eating delicate little pieces of apple (!) whilst perching upon a tall chair or something.

Absolutely beautiful. I can see you working any of those garments…either on their own, or adding a bit of modern structure to the mix! Cx

LOVE these! so beautiful! Do you have any idea of the price point? I couldn’t see it on the website. Does she ship internationally? I think the leggings are so beautiful but wouldn’t suit my frame, but the tops. I want pretty silk tops with tutu’s underneath!

The delicate quality is quite beautiful.
Kirna zabete & Scoop are 2 good stores in NY. Also Maria Conejo’s Zero. You should just walk around Nolita also.

I also think the ideas of in and out are disappearing. It’s more about what you like and what works for you.
