Where is that beach?

Where is that beach?

Yesterday at the bStore sample sale (doh, I went a day too late as the talk amongst the fash shops in Soho was that the REAL gems were in on Friday morning…. drat…), I must have been really thinking ahead to sunnier times because I basically picked up an outfit that is crying out for the beach; this Michelle Lowe Holder SS07 black playsuit that has a lovely structured neckline and some metallic bStore sandals that give a brighter, preceeding nod to the current SS08 Opening Ceremony shoe range.

Mlhplaysuit Bstoresandals

I’m not even a fan of beach holidays as the idea of lying around getting tanned and doing zilch for two weeks makes me feel queasy but this does solve the ‘not wanting to show too much flesh on the beach’ problem very nicely and reminds me distinctly of early 20th century bathing suits like the many examples seen on Shorpy.  Perhaps in the back of my mind, whilst in a shop basement in grey/windy London, the sunnier climate of the upcoming Hyeres festival was present…. therefore, I say bring on that LDN-TLN flight and let the wobbly flesh concealment challenge begin…

ooo cute! your stripy tshirt underneath and the background pics remind me of those red stripy all-in-ones men used to wear, like on chitty chitty bang bang! totally something i’d consider if we go on a dreaded sunny holiday this year (me and sun, no!) i’m still trying to convince my mom to spend a week in london

ah bathing suits…every one I see that I like is like $500 🙁 not that I need one anyways, I don’t go to the beach but I still want one! The only one I have is from when I was 13, and it has a flame pattern all over it. yikes.

I find sandals horrible, but those really make me think about finding a similiar pair and give the nearly-bare foot a shot. Especially in metallics!

All shoes were £35, accessories for £10-20
for guys, it’s better with lots of bStore, Handmade in England, for girls, lots of Peter Jensen and Bernhard Willhelm for ¬£30-¬£100

love those shoes and definitely agree with the opening ceremony comparison.
‘wobbly flesh concealment challenge’ really did make me laugh. i’ve been there. just add in purple-tinged skin for good measure.
thanks for your comment. i’m surprised you hadn’t spotted the dress. imagined you might have been the one person who’d already seen it!

Oh I love the neckline. I know it’s been on other pieces I’ve seen online, and now I’ll have that nagging feeling until I find those posts. Did you write about them prior perhaps? Regardless, very cute. And great-looking sandals.

Great look! I love the floppy hat with the sandals; they’re SO much better than rubber flip-flops for the beach!

Suspect all you need to complete the outfit for the beach is a retro swimming cap (1950s? 1960s?)

Love those shoes…between these, and the OC ones, I think I really need some shandals (the shoe/sandal hybrid) for the summer.

That’s a bathing suit you don’t get wet, you just sit there and bask in the glow of knowing that the soccer moms in baggy clothes are pissing themselves with jealousy cuz they’ll never look this good.
