A lot of the editorials that have been knocking about in the magazines have been a little severe to the point of alienating – latex leggings, big whalloping platform boots, models looking like they’re about to topple over, sharp bobs, I could go on.  So it’s a relief to find some inspiration in that’s a little more mild and quite frankly…..very English.  This editorial from the new issue of Pop magazine entitled ‘Eek Squeak Beak Freaks’ is like an exaggerated style interpretation of an Enid Blyton’s Famous Five book or something.

Perhaps it’s the length of the fall/winter period in England but for me, I always go through a whole plethora of looks, trends, inspirations and references so I think Enid Blyton is as good a place to start as any other before I make my flit about to something else.  So, I suppose I’ll be off to have a smashing time wearing neat little blouses, pinafore dresses, thick wooly socks, and eating ham sandwiches and of course – lashings of ginger beer!

I *love* this look. As a little girl, I grew up on Enid Blyton’s books, and still harbour a love of the Famous Five – camp as they may now be seen! Growing up in Australia, I’ve always held to that Blyton vision of England – the enchanted woods, mysterious moors, devastatingly beautiful coastlines, ruins, castles, country villages and more!
Living in Scotland, I see my fair share of the above, and can’t help but envision myself dressed Blytonesque, finding adventure in unlikely and remote places 🙂 Your post has really made me smile – and I needed it! Thank you!
(Australia lost its fabulous croc-loving son today – Steve Irwin – and I’ve been feeling quite depressed all day.. thanks for the distraction!)

^ DJM, I live in a wee place called Wemyss Bay, about an hour from Glasgow. It’s a bit lonely being so far from everything, although it’s a pretty place, and it doesn’t take long to get to the highlands (which I utterly love). You in Scotland too?
